Willis 'Shorty' Hogue was a boxer in California during the 1940s, along with Lloyd Marshall, Charley Burley, Jack Chase (Young Joe Louis), Archie Moore and Eddie Booker. He had a twin brother, Willard, known as "Big Boy" Hogue, who also boxed in this era. No complete record exists for either brother, but Shorty Hogue was once ranked #3 at middleweight by Ring magazine. Frank Moniz
Frankie "Shorty" Moniz ''(misspelled Muniz and Munitz)'' (September 26, 1911 – June 18, 2004) was an American soccer player who spent six seasons in the American Soccer League and earned two caps with the U.S. national team. In 1935, Moniz signed with the Kearny Scots in the American Soccer League. At some point he moved to the Pawtucket Rangers. In 1941, he left the ASL and joined the Fall River, Massachusetts Ponta Delgada S.C. which won the 1947 National Challenge Cup and National Amateur Cup. Based on these result, the U.S. Soccer Federation selected the club to act as the U.S. national team at the 1947 NAFC Championship. As a result, Moniz earned two caps with the U.S. national team. Eugene Ellsworth "Shorty" Miller (November 15, 1890 – September 20, 1966) was an American football player. He was elected to the College Football Hall of Fame in 1974. Miller played quarterback at Penn State from 1910 to 1913, missing only one game during his tenure and amassing a 23–8–2 record. His short stature () and stubby legs earned him the nickname "The Meteoric Midget." Miller would go on to start all four seasons at Penn State, missing just one game. Thomas Edward "Shorty" McWilliams (May 12, 1926 – January 9, 1997) was an American football player who played one season with the Pittsburgh Steelers of the National Football League (NFL). He was drafted by the Chicago Bears in the eighth round of the 1948 NFL Draft and the Los Angeles Dons in the 16th round of the 1948 AAFC Draft. Neil "Shorty" McMillan (September 10, 1890 – October 1964) was an American football quarterback for the University of Michigan from 1910–1911. Frank Longman
Frank Chandler "Shorty" Longman (December 7, 1882 – April 4, 1928) was an American college football player and coach. He was born Dec. 7, 1882 in Fulton, a small community in rural Kalamazoo County, Michigan. By 1894, the Longman family had moved to Kalamazoo, and Chandler attended and played on the football team at Kalamazoo High School (later known as Kalamazoo Central High School). He was a member of the June 1902 Kalamazoo High School graduating class, according to an article in the June 19, 1902 Kalamazoo Telegraph. Clarence W. "Shorty" Jenkins (1935 – 11 April 2013) was a famous ice technician in the sport of curling. He was known for his "trademark" pink cowboy hat, pink leather jacket and pink cowboy boots. Born in Hanna, Alberta and raised in an orphanage in Victoria, British Columbia, Jenkins served in the Royal Canadian Air Force from the age of 17. He would be posted in Germany and in Canada to do various military jobs. He eventually left the military to work with Sunoco. That wouldn't last, and Jenkins convinced the curling club in Trenton, Ontario to take him on as ice maker.
