Short Track Speed Skating At The 2014 Winter Olympics – Men's 1000 Metres
The men's 1000 metres in short track speed skating at the 2014 Winter Olympics was held between 13–15 February 2014 at the Iceberg Skating Palace in Sochi, Russia. The qualifying heats were held on 13 February with the quarterfinal, the semifinal and the final were held on 15 February. The 2010 Olympic Champion was Lee Jung-Su of South Korea, who did not run. The defending World Champion was Sin Da-woon, also of South Korea. He did not win a medal. Viktor Ahn and Vladimir Grigorev, both of Russia, won the gold and the silver medals, respectively. Sjinkie Knegt of the Netherlands became third. The medals of Ahn and Grigorev became the first ever gold and silver medals of Russia in short track speed skating, whereas the medal of Knegt became the first ever medal of the Netherlands in short track speed skating. Iceberg Skating Palace
The Iceberg Skating Palace (Russian: Дворец Зимнего Спорта Айсберг) is a 12,000-seat multi-purpose arena at Sochi Olympic Park in Sochi, Russia. The venue hosted the figure skating and short track speed skating events at the 2014 Winter Olympics. It cost $43.9 million, including the temporary works for the Olympics. 15,000 tonnes of steel were used. The environment was taken into consideration in its construction. A local figure skating competition was held in October 2012 but the International Skating Union said more work was needed to be ready for the 2012–2013 Grand Prix of Figure Skating Final, a test event in December 2012. The Chelyabinsk meteor was a superbolide that entered Earth's atmosphere over the southern Ural (region), Ural region in Russia on 15 February 2013 at about 09:20 Yekaterinburg Time, YEKT (03:20 Coordinated Universal Time, UTC). Wu Dajing (born 24 July 1994) is a Chinese short track speed skater. He is a gold medalist in the Men's 500 metres at the 2018 Winter Olympic Games in Pyeongchang. He won a gold medal in the Men's 500m at the 2014 ISU World Championships in Montreal, Canada. He won China's only gold medal at the 2018 Winter Olympic Games in Pyeongchang. He won the Men's 500 metres, setting an Olympic record (heat) and two world records (quarterfinal and final) while leading wire-to-wire in all three contests en route to capturing the gold. Han Tianyu (born 3 June 1996) is a Chinese short-track speed-skater. He won the silver medal in men's 1500 metres short track speed skating at the 2014 Winter Olympics, behind the Canadian skater Charles Hamelin, who won the gold medal. Olivier Jean (born March 15, 1984) is a three time Olympian who represented Canada in both short and long track speed skating. Olivier Jean is a gold medalist from the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Games in the men's 5000m relay. He is a canadian short track speed skater, racing internationally from 2002 to 2015 and switched to long track speed skating, competing internationally from 2015 to 2018.
