Short track speed skating at the 1998 Winter Olympics was held from 17 to 21 February. Six events were contested at the White Ring. Medal summary Medal table South Korea led the medal table with six, including three golds. Chun Lee-kyung led the individual medal table, with two golds and one bronze. White Ring (arena)
The White Ring is an indoor arena, indoor sporting arena located in Nagano, Nagano, Nagano, Japan. The capacity of the arena is 7,000 people. It was a venue at the 1998 Winter Olympics, hosting the Figure skating at the 1998 Winter Olympics, figure skating and Short track speed skating at the 1998 Winter Olympics, short track speed skating events. Tania Vicent (born January 13, 1976, in Laval, Quebec) is a Canadian short track speed skater, who competed at the 2006 Winter Olympics. On February 22, along with Alanna Kraus, Anouk Leblanc-Boucher and Kalyna Roberge, Vicent won a silver medal for Canada in the 3000m relay. She won the bronze medal in Nagano and at Salt Lake City. Wang Chunlu (, born 27 September 1978 in Changchun, China) is a Chinese short track speed skater. She won medals in the 500 m and 3000 m relay at the 2002 Winter Olympics. She had also already won a relay silver medal at the 1998 Winter Olympics, at the age of 19. Her strongest event by far was always the 500 metres, where she won 3 world titles- 1995, 1998, and 2001. In addition to her Olympic bronze in 2002, she was also leading the final and on her way to a likely gold medal in 1998 before a dangerous and poorly executed passing attempt by Isabelle Charest unfortunately led to Charest and Wang both falling. Distraught Wang, despite not being injured, refused to complete her 5 laps, and ceded the bronze medal to Chun Lee Kyung, the winner of the B final. Yang Yang (; born 24 August 1976 in Jiamusi, Heilongjiang, China) is a retired Chinese short track speed skater. She is a two-time Olympic Champion from 2002 Winter Olympics and a six-time Overall World Champion for 1997–2002. Known as Yang Yang (A), she was formerly a member of the Chinese national short track team. Yang is one of the most accomplished short track speed skaters of all time having won 34 world titles, including six Overall World Championships. She is the first person to have won six Overall World Titles and won six consecutively. Her victory in the women's 500 m short track at the 2002 Winter Olympics made her China's first-ever Winter Olympics gold medalist.
