Short Track Speed Skating At The 1992 Winter Olympics
Short track speed skating at the 1992 Winter Olympics was held from 18 to 22 February. Four events were contested at La halle de glace Olympique, located next to the Théâtre des Cérémonies, a couple of kilometers west of downtown Albertville. This was the first time short track speed skating was contested at the Winter Olympics. Medal summary Medal table South Korea led the medal table with three, including two golds. Kim Ki-hoon's gold medal in the men's 1000 metre was the first Winter gold medal for South Korea. Kim also led the individual medal table, with two gold medals. The top women's medalist was American Cathy Turner, who won one gold and one silver. La Halle De Glace Olympique
Halle Olympique (french: Olympic Hall) is an indoor arena located in Albertville, France. For the 1992 Winter Olympics, it hosted the figure skating and the short track speed skating events. It was first use for the 1991 Trophée Lalique, which was staged as a test event for the Olympics. The venue also hosted selected matches of the 2017 World Men's Handball Championship. The site was constructed on ten internal pillars. Its ice was laid down on foundation, then of insulation, of screed, and finally, of ice. The ice temperature was kept between depending upon the sporting discipline. The Halle Olympique underwent a major overhaul in 2014 and was reopened the following spring. Nikki Ziegelmeyer
Nicole "Nikki" Ziegelmeyer (born September 24, 1975) is an American short track speed skater who competed in the 1992 Winter Olympics and 1994 Winter Olympics. She was born in Imperial, Missouri and she graduated from Windsor Senior High in 1993 ,becoming a Hall of Fame inductee in 2006. She was a member of the American relay team at the 1992 Olympics in Albertville, France, which won the silver medal in the 3000 metre relay competition. Two years later she won the bronze medal with the American team in the 3000 metre relay event. Ziegelmeyer planned to compete for the 1998 Winter Olympic Games in Nagano, Japan but suffered a severe break to her back when she fell to the ice and skidded into the boards at 35 mph during a training session in Lake Placid, New York in 1997. Amy Peterson
Amy Peterson (born November 29, 1971) is an American short track speed skater. Peterson competed in five consecutive Olympic games from when short track speed skating was exhibition sport in 1988 to 2002. Peterson qualified for her first Olympic Games in 1988 for the 1988 Winter Olympics in Calgary at age 16. In 1988 short track speed skating was just a demonstration sport and no medals were awarded. Peterson won the 1,000 meters, and 1,500 meters US speed skating titles at the U.S. Olympic Festival in 1989. She also placed third in the 500 meters. Peterson was born in Maplewood, Minnesota. She attended Johnson Senior High School in Saint Paul, Minnesota and graduated in 1990. Her uncle, Gene Sandvig, competed in speed skating in the 1952 and 1956 Olympic Games. Sylvie Daigle (born December 1, 1962) is a Canadian speed skater. She is a member of the Canadian short track relay team that won gold at the 1992 Winter Olympics and silver at the 1994 Winter Olympics.
