Short Heath is a residential area situated north of the market town of Willenhall, in the Metropolitan Borough of Walsall, West Midlands, England. Short Heath is a ward in the Walsall North constituency, and is bordered by the neighbouring walls of Bentley and Darlaston North, Birchills Leamore, Willenhall North, and Willenhall South. The population of the ward is approximately 11,374, according to a mid-2018 ward-level population estimate published by the ONS. The area contains housing developments, several schools, and a number of businesses and shops. Short Heath also contains Rough Wood - a small woodland area, and Bentley Haye - an area of wet grassland, both forming part of the larger Rough Wood Chase Local Nature Reserve. The Metropolitan Borough of Walsall is a metropolitan borough in the West Midlands (county), West Midlands, England. It is named after its largest settlement, Walsall, but covers a larger area which also includes Aldridge, Bloxwich, Brownhills, Darlaston, Pelsall and Willenhall. The borough had an estimated population of 254,500 in 2007. The borough was created on 1 April 1974 under the Local Government Act 1972. Bloxwich Railway Station
Bloxwich railway station serves Bloxwich, in the Metropolitan Borough of Walsall, West Midlands, England. The station, and all trains serving it, are operated by West Midlands Railway. History The present station opened in 1989, as part of the first stage of the reopening of the Chase Line from Walsall to Hednesford to passenger trains under British Rail. An earlier Bloxwich station existed a few hundred yards to the south, just north of the level crossing and adjacent to the existing Bloxwich Signal Box (which in April 2011 retained its London Midland Region of British Railways white-on-maroon enamel sign). M6 Motorway
The M6 motorway is the longest motorway in the United Kingdom. It is located entirely within England, running for just over from the Midlands to the border with Scotland. It begins at Junction 19 of the M1 and the western end of the A14 at the Catthorpe Interchange, near Rugby before heading north-west. London Midland was a train operating company in England which operated the West Midlands franchise between 11 November 2007 and 10 December 2017. It was owned by the British transport group Govia. London Midland was created as a result of Govia being awarded the West Midlands franchise on 22 June 2007. West Midlands Trains (WMT) is a train operating company in the United Kingdom. It operates passenger trains on the West Midlands franchise between London and the English Midlands under two trade names: West Midlands Railway (WMR) (within the West Midlands region) and London Northwestern Railway (LNR) (outside the region). Rough Wood
Rough Wood is a small woodland area located within the Short Heath area of Willenhall in England, United Kingdom. It covers two local nature reserves: Rough Wood and Rough Wood Chase. It is one of only a few remaining ancient woodlands with a mix of tree varieties but comprising largely oak trees. Historically the woodland was privately owned up until the 1950s when it was given to the then Willenhall Council to protect it from clay extraction. The council promptly placed a preservation order on all the trees. First mentioned in the 12th Century as a royal hunting wood it stretched over a vast area taking in most of what is currently Walsall all the way to the woodland that is now known as Cannock Chase. The woodland resides on top of the Bentley Seam of coal which runs close to the surface of the ground.
