Shorncliffe Railway Station
Shorncliffe railway station is the terminus station of the Shorncliffe line in Queensland, Australia. It serves the Brisbane suburb of Shorncliffe. History The railway line from Brisbane to Sandgate opened in 1882, and the terminal station, located near Curlew Street, was named Sandgate. The line was extended to Shorncliffe in 1897, and the name Sandgate was transferred to the new terminal station. In 1938 it was renamed Shorncliffe. The line allowed Brisbane residents to travel to the water of Moreton Bay's Shorncliffe shoreline. Beyond the station lie two sidings used to stable trains overnight. Shorncliffe is a coastal north-eastern suburb in the City of Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. It is on the shore of Bramble Bay, part of Moreton Bay. In the , Shorncliffe had a population of 1,870 people. The suburb attracts visitors to its historic Shorncliffe pier, and Lovers Walk, a walking path along the coastline between Shorncliffe and neighbouring Sandgate. Geography Shorncliffe is situated in Brisbane's northeastern suburbs on Bramble Bay, part of Moreton Bay. Shorncliffe is bounded to the north, north-east and east by Bramble Bay and to the south-east, south, and south-west by Cabbage Tree Creek (), which enters the bay at Cabbage Tree Point (). Moreton Bay
Moreton Bay is a bay located on the eastern coast of Australia from central Brisbane, Queensland. It is one of Queensland's most important coastal resources. The waters of Moreton Bay are a popular destination for recreational anglers and are used by commercial operators who provide seafood to market. The Port of Brisbane coordinates large traffic along the shipping channel which crosses the northern section of the bay. The bay serves as a safe approach to the airport and reduces noise pollution over the city to the west of the runway. A number of barge, ferry and water-taxi services also travel over the bay. Moreton Bay was the site of conflict between the Quandamooka people and early European settlers. It contains environmentally significant habitats and large areas of sandbanks. Cleveland Railway Station
Cleveland railway station is located on the Cleveland line in Queensland, Australia. It serves the suburb of Cleveland in the Redland City. History In 1889, the Cleveland line was extended from Manly to the original Cleveland station. In 1897, the line was extended to the second Cleveland station. Cleveland station opened as the Raby Bay railway station in 1914. On 1 November 1960, the station closed when the line was truncated to Lota. When the station reopened on 24 October 1987, the former Raby Bay station became the third to carry the name Cleveland. Incidents On 31 January 2013, a passenger train, IMU173, overshot the railway line and collided with the station, severely damaging a toilet block and the railway station and injuring 14 people. Manly Railway Station
Manly railway station is located on the Cleveland line in Queensland, Australia. It serves the Brisbane suburb of Manly. History Manly station opened in 1888 as the original terminus of the line. The line was later extended to the original Cleveland station in 1889. In 1992, the original timber station was demolished after becoming infested with termites. To the west of the station lies a City network stabling yard. Services Manly is served by Cleveland line services from Shorncliffe, Northgate, Doomben and Bowen Hills to Cleveland. During morning peak hour 7 trains begin their service at Manly while 6 services from Cleveland during the same time run express Manly-Morningside. Central station is one of four inner city stations that form a core corridor through the centre of Brisbane. History The first building for Central railway station was a structure of wood and corrugated galvanised iron, and opened on 18 August 1889 as the terminus of the line when it was extended from Roma Street railway station.
