Shop Assistants were a Scottish indie pop band from Edinburgh, Scotland, formed in 1984, initially as 'Buba & The Shop Assistants'.Strong, Martin C. After splitting in 1987, with singer Alex Taylor moving on to The Motorcycle Boy, they reformed for two further singles in 1990. History The group began as Buba & the Shop Assistants, consisting of lead vocalist Aggi (Annabel Wright, later of The Pastels), guitarist David Keegan, bassist John Peutherer, and drummer Moray Crawford. This line-up released one single, the now highly collectible "Something to Do" on Villa21 Records, which was produced by The Pastels, Stephen Pastel. Pastel also contributed backing vocals. Omnibus Press is a publisher of music-related books. It publishes around 30 new titles a year to add to a backlist of over 300 titles currently in print. History Omnibus Press was launched in 1972 as a general non-fiction publisher to complement the sheet music published and distributed by its parent company Music Sales Group. ''Postcards from Scotland'' is a 2024 book by Scottish film director Grant McPhee that covers Scotland's 1980's and 1990's independent music scene. It focuses on the stories of The Pastels, Shop Assistants, The Jesus and Mary Chain, Primal Scream, The Soup Dragons, BMX Bandits, The Vaselines, Eugenius, Jesse Garon, and the Desperadoes, Finitribe, The Motorcycle Boy, The Big Gun, and Rote Kapelle. The book was launched with two live events featuring a ‘supergroup’ made up of members of Shop Assistants, BMX Bandits, Fizzbombs, Rote Kapelle and Jesse Garon and the Desperadoes while being backed by The Cords. A second volume has been completed and will be released by Omnibus books. Respectable (The Rolling Stones Song)
"Respectable" is a song by the English rock band the Rolling Stones from their 1978 album '' Some Girls''. It was written by Mick Jagger and Keith Richards. In the liner notes to the 1993 compilation album '' Jump Back: The Best of The Rolling Stones'' (on which it was included), Jagger said, "It's important to be somewhat influenced by what's going on around you and on the ''Some Girls'' album, I think we definitely became more aggressive because of the punk thing..." The Official Albums Chart is the United Kingdom's industry-recognised national record chart for album, albums. Entries are ranked by sales and audio streaming. It was published for the first time on 22 July 1956 and is compiled every week by the Official Charts Company (OCC) on Fridays (previously Sundays). ''C86'' is a Audio cassette, cassette compilation released by the British music magazine ''NME'' in 1986, featuring new bands licensed from British independent record labels of the time. As a term, ''C86'' quickly evolved into shorthand for a guitar-based music genre characterized by Jangle pop, jangling guitars and melodic power pop song structures, although other musical styles were represented on the tape. In its time, it became a pejorative term for its associations with so-called "shambling" (a John Peel-coined description celebrating the self-conscious primitive approach of some of the music) and Underachiever, underachievement. Festive Fifty
The Festive Fifty was originally an annual list of the year's 50 (though the exact figure varied above and below this number) best songs compiled at the end of the year and voted for by listeners to John Peel's BBC Radio 1 show. It was usually dominated by indie and rock songs which did not fully represent the diversity of music played by Peel but rather the majority opinion among his listeners. After Peel's death the tradition of the Festive Fifty was continued, first by other Radio 1 DJs and then (when Radio 1 decided to discontinue it) by the Internet radio station Dandelion Radio. History The first Festive Fifty was broadcast in 1976 and differed in format to later charts in that it was not restricted to songs from that year.
