Shooting At The 2016 Summer Olympics
Shooting competitions at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro took place from 6 to 14 August at the National Shooting Center in Deodoro. A maximum of 390 athletes were able to compete in the fifteen events across these Games. The event format was similar to 2012, although there were significant changes to the rules and guidelines of the competition. Format changes On 23 November 2012, the International Shooting Sport Federation instituted new rules to the competition format designed to enhance the sport's appeal to youth, to make it more spectator and media friendly, and to keep the competitions fair and transparent. The most significant change to the rules was the new final format for all Olympic events, where all finalists must start from scratch. Furthermore, all finals featured an elimination stage, until the competition ended up with duels between the two shooters to decide the gold and silver medals. Shooting At The 2016 Summer Olympics – Men's 10 Metre Air Pistol
The men's 10 metre air pistol event at the 2016 Summer Olympics took place on 6 August 2016 at the National Shooting Center. The event consisted of two rounds: a qualification and a final. In the qualification round, each shooter fired 60 shots with an air pistol at 10 metres distance. Scores for each shot were in increments of 1, with a maximum score of 10. The top-eight shooters in the qualification round advanced to the final round, where they fired an additional 20 shots. Scores for each shot were in increments of 0.1, with a maximum score of 10.9. Christian Reitz (born 29 April 1987) is a German 25 metre rapid fire pistol shooter, the current world record holder. Felipe Almeida Wu (born 11 June 1992 in São Paulo) is a Brazilian sport shooter. He won a silver medal in the Men's 10m air pistol event at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. Hoàng Xuân Vinh (born October 6, 1974 in Hanoi) is a Vietnamese sport shooter. Xuân Vinh participated in the 2012, 2016 and 2020 Summer Olympics. The women's trap event at the 2016 Olympic Games took place on 7 August 2016 at the National Shooting Center. Competition format The event consisted of two rounds: a qualifier and a final. In the qualifier, each shooter fired 3 sets of 25 targets in trap shooting, with 10 targets being thrown to the left, 10 to the right, and 5 straight-away in each set. The shooters could take two shots at each target. The top 6 shooters in the qualifying round moved on to the semifinal round. There, they fired one round of 15 targets, where only one shot could be taken at each target. The men's trap at the 2016 Summer Olympics took place on 7–8 August 2016 at the National Shooting Center. There were 33 competitors from 24 nations. The event was won by Croatian Josip Glasnović. It was the second consecutive victory for Croatia, with Giovanni Cernogoraz taking gold in 2012 (he finished 9th this time).
