Shooting At The 2012 Summer Paralympics
Shooting at the 2012 Summer Paralympics consisted of twelve events. The competition was held in the Royal Artillery Barracks in Woolwich from 30 August to 6 September. Classification Paralympic shooters were classified according to the extent of their disability. The classification system allowed shooters to compete against others with a similar level of function. Shooting classifications are: *SH1 - competitors who do not need a shooting stand *SH2 - competitors who use a shooting stand to support the firearm's weight Events For each of the events below, medals were contested for one or both of the above classifications. Royal Artillery Barracks
Royal Artillery Barracks, Woolwich, is a barracks of the British Army which forms part of Woolwich Garrison. The Royal Regiment of Artillery had its headquarters here from 1776 until 2007, when it was moved to Larkhill Garrison. History In 1716 two permanent field companies of Artillery (each of a hundred men) were formed by royal Warrant and placed under the command of the Master-General of the Ordnance. They were initially quartered in the Warren, about half a mile from the current barracks site. By 1771 the Royal Regiment of Artillery numbered over 2,400, over a third of whom were usually quartered in Woolwich. James Bevis
James Bevis (born 8 August 1976 in Hereford) is a British sports-shooter who won a bronze medal in Shooting at the 2012 Summer Paralympics in the Shooting at the 2012 Summer Paralympics – Mixed 10 metre air rifle prone SH2, Mixed 10 metre air rifle prone SH2. In 2016, Bevis was part of the GB team that set a new team world record at the IPC Shooting World Cup in Al Ain, alongside Ryan Cockbill and Tim Jeffery. Matthew James Skelhon (born 30 October 1984) is a British shooting sports, sport shooter. At the 2008 Summer Paralympics he won the gold medal in the SH1 10 metre prone air rifle event. Life Skelhon lost the use of his legs following a car accident. He competes in the SH1 Paralympic classification for pistol and rifle competitors that do not require a shooting stand. He started shooting competitively when he joined the Disabled Target Shooting Association of Great Britain in April 2006 after discovering his talent at the WheelPower Inter Spinal Unit Games. Two months later he won a silver medal in the national championships.
