Shoham
Shoham ( he, שֹׁהַם, ''lit.'' onyx) is a town ( local council) in the Central District of Israel. The name relates to one of the 12 stones on the Hoshen, the sacred breastplate worn by a Jewish high priest (Exodus 28:20), similar to other nearby towns: Nofekh, Bareket, Leshem and Ahlama (the former name of Beit Arif). As of , Shoham had a population of . Its jurisdiction is 5,889 dunams (~5.9 km2). History A plan to establish a town in the area that is now Shoham was first proposed in the 1960s, as an idea to establish a town for immigrants from South America. It was again proposed in the 1970s. However, residents of nearby moshavim wanted to build a rural community for the adult children of farmers in cooperative communities. Bareket
Bareket ( he, בַּרֶקֶת, , Emerald) is a moshav in central Israel. Located in the Shephelah around five kilometres north-east of Ben Gurion International Airport and covering 2,500 dunams, it falls under the jurisdiction of Hevel Modi'in Regional Council. Moshe Mizrahi ( he, משה מזרחי; 20 September 1950 – 11 December 2022) was a senior Israel Police official and a member of Knesset for the Labor Party (2013–2015) and Zionist Union (2018–2019). David Stav
Rabbi David Stav ( he, דוד סתיו, born 13 May 1960) is the chief rabbi of the city of Shoham, the chairman of the Tzohar organization, and serves as a rabbi for the Ezra youth movement. Biography Stav was born in Jerusalem, the son of Shmuel Dov Stav, a librarian at the Yeshurun synagogue, and Idel (Hadassa), the daughter of Rabbi Gedaliah Moshe Goldman, the Rebbe of Zvhil. He studied at Yeshivat Bnei Akiva Nativ Meir and later at Mercaz HaRav Yeshiva, under Rabbi Avraham Shapira, whom he views as his rabbi. He was ordained as a religious judge at the kollel in Psagot. He enlisted in the IDF through the Hesder Mercaz program and served for eight months in the Armored Corps. Beit Arif ( he, בֵּית עָרִיף, ''lit.'' House of Cloud) is a moshav in central Israel. Located near Shoham, it falls under the jurisdiction of Hevel Modi'in Regional Council. In it had a population of . History During the 18th and 19th centuries, Beit Arif was the site of the village of Dayr Tarif. It belonged to the Nahiyeh (sub-district) of Lod that encompassed the area of the present-day city of Modi'in-Maccabim-Re'ut in the south to the present-day city of El'ad in the north, and from the foothills in the east, through the Lod Valley to the outskirts of Jaffa in the west. This area was home to thousands of inhabitants in about 20 villages, who had at their disposal tens of thousands of hectares of prime agricultural land. Lonah Korlima Chemtai Salpeter ( he, לונה צ'מטאי-סלפטר, , born 12 December 1988) is a Kenyan-Israeli runner. She won the bronze medal in the marathon at the 2022 World Athletics Championships. At the European Athletics Championships, Chemtai took victory in the 10,000 metres in 2018 and earned bronze in 2022. She won the 2020 Tokyo Marathon. Her personal best time for the marathon is 2:17:45, which when she ran it in 2020 made her the sixth-fastest woman in history (currently 11th), the second-fastest European all-time, and set a new Israeli national record.
