It is notable for being featured on the first soundtrack to the television series ''Friends'', as well as the last track on the band's ''Born on a Pirate Ship'' album (added at the last minute). The song was also recorded and mixed for the band's live album, ''Rock Spectacle'', but was ultimately left off, and later included on ''One Week'' single. Music video The video for the song was originally to feature Matt LeBlanc and Lisa Kudrow, from the sitcom ''Friends'', but each pulled out nearly last minute, and had to be replaced with unknown actors. Dingbat (building)
A dingbat is a type of apartment building that flourished in the Sun Belt region of the United States in the 1950s and 1960s, a vernacular variation of shoebox style "stucco boxes". Dingbats are boxy, two or three-story apartment houses with overhangs sheltering street-front parking. They remain widely in use today as “bastions of affordable shelter.” Mainly found in Southern California, but also in Arizona, Florida, Hawaii, Nevada and Vancouver, dingbats are known for their downmarket status and inexpensive rents. Some replaced more distinctive but less profitable building structures, such as single-family Victorian homes. Since the 1950s they have been the subject of aesthetic interest as examples of Mid-Century modern design and kitsch, since many dingbats have themed names and specialized trim. From a structural engineering perspective, the "tuck-under parking" arrangement may create a soft story if the residential levels are supported on slender columns without many ... Shoebox Style

Dingbat apartments are an undistinguished shoebox style. The puritan and repetitive shoebox style is seen as a way to low-cost construction. Shoebox style concert halls of rectangular shape are also popular, as opposed to the traditional circular amphitheatre, arena or horseshoe A horseshoe is a fabricated product designed to protect a horse hoof from wear. IBM Shoebox
The IBM Shoebox was a 1961 IBM computer that was able to perform mathematical functions and perform speech recognition. It recognized 16 spoken words, including the digits 0 through 9. It was developed by William C. Dersch in the Advanced Systems Development Division Laboratory at IBM History It was displayed at the IBM Pavilion during the 1962 Seattle World's Fair. It was approximately the size and shape of a standard American shoebox. It had a display of ten small lamp lights labeled with the digits 0 through 9 and an attached microphone. Speaking the name of the digit into the microphone would cause the appropriate digit lamp to light. Inside the box were a power supply, three analog audio filters and some (presumably) Diode-Resistor-Logic circuitry. The design allowed for the recognition of each digit name “Zero”, “One”, Two” … “Nine” and its front, middle, and ending sound. (Sometimes no middle). And that each sound was high pitched, middle pitched or low p ... [...More Info...]       [...Related Items...]     OR:     [Wikipedia]   [Google]   [Baidu]   |
