Shiver And Shake (film)
''Shiver and Shake'' was a British comic magazine published every Monday by IPC Magazines Ltd. It ran from (issue dates) 10 March 1973 to 5 October 1974, when it merged with ''Whoopee!'' As often happens with British comics, many names of strips were a play on popular television programmes and films of the time. The theme of the strips were mainly horror (albeit of a comic nature); similar to the later ''Monster Fun''; indeed, ''Frankie Stein'' appeared in both comics. In an idea borrowed from the successful ''Whizzer and Chips'', it was two comics in one; ''Shake'' being a pull-out section from ''Shiver''. The main star of ''Shiver'' was a ghost of the same name, while the eponymous '' Shake'' was an elephant. Both had their own strips in their respective sections ('' The Duke's Spook'' and ''Shake''). Sweeny Toddler
''Sweeny Toddler'' (sometimes titled ''Help! It's Sweeny Toddler'') was a British comic strip by Leo Baxendale, which originally appeared in the British magazines ''Shiver and Shake'', ''Whoopee!'', ''Whizzer and Chips'' and finally '' Buster'' between 1973 and 2000. It was a gag-a-day about a little mischievous toddler. The name is a play on Sweeney Todd. Concept Originally drawn by Leo Baxendale, Sweeny was a two-year-old 'toddler from hell'. With his pet dog Henry, he caused havoc around town, the outcome of which would usually involve being caught by his parents and punished with the slipper. Tom Paterson took over from Baxendale quite early on, Paterson becoming easily the most famous and longest running artist to draw the strip. ''Cor!!'', a British comic book, was launched in June 1970 by IPC (International Publishing Corporation), their sixth new comic in just over a year. ''Cor!!'' was edited by Bob Paynter. The comic had 32 pages and included a full colour center spread. It consisted of traditional British characters, albeit with a slight tweak. The unruly schoolkids of '' The Gaswork Gang'' echoing ''The Bash Street Kids'' of ''The Beano'', ''Tomboy'' was firmly in the ''Minnie the Minx'' vein, whilst '' Tricky Dicky'' seemed like a version of ''Roger the Dodger'', albeit with longer hair and shorter trousers. The first ''Cor!!'' Featured '' Gus Gorilla'' on the front cover, drawn by Mike Lacey. The strip was in the shape of a glass, to promote the free fruit drink that came with it. ''Smash!'' was a weekly British comics, British comic book, published initially by Odhams Press and subsequently by IPC Magazines, from 5 February 1966 to 3 April 1971. After 257 issues it merged into ''Valiant (comics), Valiant''. During 1967 and 1968 ''Smash!'' was part of Odhams' Power Comics line, notable for its publication of American superhero strips. During this period, alongside British humour strips, ''Smash!'' included black-and-white superhero reprints originally published in the US by Marvel Comics and DC Comics. In late 1968, ''Smash!'' absorbed its sister titles ''Pow! (comics), Pow!'' and ''Fantastic (comics), Fantastic'', thereby becoming the last surviving Power Comics title. Leo Baxendale
Joseph Leo Baxendale (27 October 1930 – 23 April 2017) was an English cartoonist and publisher. Baxendale wrote and drew several titles. Among his best-known creations are the ''The Beano, Beano'' comic strip, strips ''Little Plum'', ''Minnie the Minx'', ''The Bash Street Kids'', and ''The Three Bears (comic strip), The Three Bears''. Career Baxendale was born in Whittle-le-Woods, Lancashire, and was educated at Preston Catholic College. After serving in the Royal Air Force, RAF, he took his first job as an artist for the local ''Lancashire Evening Post'' drawing adverts and cartoons.
