Shivaree (TV Series)
''Shivaree'' was a Los Angeles-based music variety show that ran in syndication from 1965 to 1966. It was created and hosted by KFWB-AM personality Gene Weed, LA's top nighttime DJ at the time, and who in later years became a producer for Dick Clark Productions. In its brief run, the show featured numerous well-known acts, including The Mamas & the Papas, The Supremes, The Rolling Stones, Jackie Wilson, Marvin Gaye, Ronnie Dove, James Brown, Stevie Wonder, The Ronettes, Cher, Simon and Garfunkel, The Byrds, The Toys, The Bobby Fuller Four, Allan Sherman, Lesley Gore, and Gary Lewis & the Playboys, and was taped at KABC-TV's studios in LA. It began in syndication in April 1965 and ran through May 1966 in more than 150 markets in the U.S. and seven countries internationally. The Toys
The Toys were an American pop girl group from Jamaica, New York, which was formed in 1961 and disbanded in 1968. Their most successful recording was "A Lover's Concerto" (1965), which sold more than two million copies and reached the number-two spot on the ''Billboard'' Hot 100 chart. Research Video is a music footage library operating from North Hollywood, Los Angeles. The company was formed in 1984 by partners John Delgatto and Paul Surratt. Paul Surratt was also an ex-Shilos member, a folk group headed by Gram Parsons. John Delgatto left the company in March 1988 to return full time to his record label, Sierra Records. Paul Surratt owns the rights to an extensive collection of television and film footage dating back to the 1950s. Go-Go Dancing
Go-go dancers are dancers who are employed to entertain crowds at nightclubs or other venues where music is played. Go-go dancing originated in the early 1960s at the French bar Whisky a Gogo located in Juan-les-Pins. The bar's name was taken from the French title of the Scottish comedy film '' Whisky Galore!'', which was titled ''Tight Little Island'' in the United States. The French bar then licensed its name to the very popular West Hollywood rock club Whisky a Go Go, which opened in January 1964 and chose the name to reflect the already popular craze of go-go dancing. Many 1960s-era clubgoers wore miniskirts and knee-high, high-heeled boots, which eventually came to be called go-go boots. Nightclub promoters in the mid‑1960s then conceived the idea of hiring women dressed in these outfits to entertain patrons. KABC-TV (channel 7) is a television station in Los Angeles, California, United States, serving as the West Coast flagship of the ABC network.
