Shiva (horse)
Shiva (born 22 April 1995) was a Japanese-bred, British-trained Thoroughbred racehorse and broodmare. In a racing career which was delayed and repeatedly interrupted by training problems she won four of her ten races between May 1998 and October 2000. Unraced as a two-year-old, she won her only start at three and emerged as a top-class middle distance performer in the spring of 1999 with wins in the Earl of Sefton Stakes and Tattersalls Gold Cup and went on to finish second in the Champion Stakes in autumn. As a five-year-old she recorded an emphatic win in the Brigadier Gerard Stakes and then finished third in a strongly contested edition of the Eclipse Stakes. After her retirement from racing she had some success as a dam of winners. Hector Protector
Hector Protector (foaled 1988 in Kentucky) was an American-bred, French-trained Thoroughbred racehorse. He was a full brother to the Champion filly Bosra Sham, who was trained by Henry Cecil. She was a champion miler and despite her bad feet she won the 1000 Guineas Stakes G1 over 1600 meters. The great trainer Henry Cecil considered her to be the best filly he ever trained. Gran Criterium
The Gran Criterium is a Group 2 flat horse race in Italy open to two-year-old thoroughbred colts and fillies. It is run at Milan over a distance of 1,500 metres (about 1 mile), and it is scheduled to take place each year in October. The event held Group 2 status for a period in the 1970s. It was subsequently promoted, and was Italy's only Group 1 race for juvenile horses. It was downgraded back to Group 2 from 2014. A horse length, or simply length, is a unit of measurement for the length of a horse from nose to tail, approximately . Use in horse racing The length is commonly used in Thoroughbred horse racing, where it describes the distance between horses in a race. Kieren Fallon
Kieren Francis Fallon (born 22 February 1965 in Crusheen, County Clare, Ireland) is a retired Irish professional flat racing jockey and was British Champion Jockey six times. Career Stable jockey to Henry Cecil In 1997, Fallon became the stable jockey for Henry Cecil, one of Britain's leading trainers. In May 1997 he recorded his first Classic win when taking the 1000 Guineas on the Cecil-trained filly Sleepytime. Cecil called him "a very hard worker" and a "Group One Jockey" while Richard Edmondson, writing in The Independent, praised Fallon's riding ability while pointing out his poor disciplinary record. Kempton Park Racecourse
Kempton Park Racecourse is a horse racing track together with a licensed entertainment and conference venue in Sunbury-on-Thames, Surrey, England, 16 miles south-west of Charing Cross, London and on a border of Greater London. In horse racing a maiden race is an event for horses that have not won a race. Horses that have not won a race are referred to as maidens. Maiden horse races are held over a variety of distances and under conditions with eligibility based on the sex or age of the horse. Races may be handicaps, set weights, or weight for age. Odds provide a measure of the likelihood of a particular outcome. They are calculated as the ratio of the number of events that produce that outcome to the number that do not. Odds are commonly used in gambling and statistics. Cloth of Stars (foaled 6 April 2013) is an Irish-bred, French-trained Thoroughbred racehorse. He showed good ability as a two-year-old in 2015, winning the Prix des Chênes and being placed in both the Prix de Condé and the Critérium de Saint-Cloud. Light Shift (22 March 2004 – 28 March 2014) was an American-bred, British-bred Thoroughbred racehorse and broodmare best known for winning the 2007 Epsom Oaks. In a racing career which lasted from June 2006 to October 2007 the filly ran nine times and won four races. After winning once as a two-year-old, Light Shift won the Cheshire Oaks on her second appearance as a three-year-old. She then won the Classic Oaks over one and a half miles at Epsom, beating the Irish filly Peeping Fawn. Light Shift never won another race, being beaten by Peeping Fawn in the Irish Oaks and the Nassau Stakes and finishing unplaced in the Prix de l'Opéra.
