Shirkat Gah
Shirkat Gah women's resource centre, is a women's rights organization in Pakistan which focuses on research, publications and advocacy on women's issues. History Shirkat Gah was established in 1975 by Najma Sadeque (journalist, human rights activist, environmental writer) with a group of 7 like-minded women. Shirkat Gah was established as a resource and publication center for women to promote their economic and social development and to carry out research and awareness related activities. In the beginning, Shirkat Gah helped working women by starting women's hostel and day-care centers. Women members of Shirkat Gah played key role in the formation of Women's Action Forum in 1981 along with members of other women's organizations such as Simorgh, Aurat Foundation, Applied Socio-Economic Resource Center (ASR) and Society for Advancement of Education (SAHE). Women's Rights
Women's rights are the rights and entitlements claimed for women and girls worldwide. They formed the basis for the women's rights movement in the 19th century and the feminist movements during the 20th and 21st centuries. Najma Sadeque
Najma Sadeque (1943 – 8 January 2015) from Pakistan was a leading woman journalist, author, human rights activist, particularly of women's rights, an artist, an environmentalist, and a painter. She also did research on socioeconomic issues and authored many books and wrote articles. She co-founded ''Shirkat Gah'' in 1975, a women's NGO to highlight human rights violations against women. She also co-founded the Women’s Action Forum (WAF), Pakistan. Biography Sadeque was born in 1943 in Bengal, British India and was brought up in East Pakistan (now Bangladesh) in an atmosphere of land farming which dictated her future thinking. Zohra Yusuf
Zohra Yusuf (born 2 May 1950) is an advertising professional, an activist and a journalist who is lauded for her work in women's rights, human rights and media. She is the former Chairperson of the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP). Education Zohra graduated from Holy Cross College, Dhaka, East Pakistan (now Bangladesh). Career After graduating, Zohra Yusuf started work as an editor and later became the general manager of research and development department in the ''Dawn'' group of newspapers. Farida Shaheed
Farida Shaheed is a Pakistani sociologist and feminist human rights activist. In 2012, she was appointed the United Nations Special Rapporteur in the field of cultural rights. She heads the Shirkat Gah women's resource centre in Pakistan, and is known for her extensive work on gender and class analysis, both in Pakistan and more globally. Work Shaheed has over 25 years of research and activist experience, using a gender and Feminist political theory, feminist lens on issues of rural development, Labour economics#Criticisms, labour, culture, religion and the state. Hilda Saeed
Hilda Saeed (born 1936) is a Pakistani activist and freelance journalist. She is chair of Shirkat Gah (Women's Resource Center) and a founding member of the Women's Action Forum (WAF) in Pakistan and of the Pakistan Reproductive Health Network. Activities Saeed is a Christian married to a Muslim. Saeed began her career by teaching at an undergraduate university for eighteen years. She worked as a medical researcher, forensic serologist, and also as a journalist. Saeed helped women and members of minority communities through legal Proceedings. Aisha Gazdar is a Pakistani journalist, writer, filmmaker and a researcher for documentaries. She is known for her award-winning film: The Honor Deception. She is the daughter of Mushtaq Gazdar. Fauzia Viqar
Fauzia Viqar is the Federal Ombudsperson for Protection Against Harassment at Workplace, Government of Pakistan.
