Shire Of Wycheproof
The Shire of Wycheproof was a local government area about northwest of Bendigo in northwestern Victoria, Australia. The shire covered an area of , and existed from 1894 until 1995. History Wycheproof was originally part of the St Arnaud Road District, which was incorporated in 1861, and became a Shire in 1864. On 27 April 1894, the North Riding of the Shire was severed and proclaimed as the Shire of Wycheproof, after a successful petition from the residents of Wycheproof to the Commissioner of Public Works. Mallee (Victoria)
The Mallee covers the most northwesterly part of Victoria, bounded by the South Australian and New South Wales borders. Definitions of the south-eastern boundary vary, however, all are based on the historic Victorian distribution of mallee eucalypts. These trees dominate the surviving vegetation through most of Mallee, (except for swamps and areas along waterways, and very rare stands of ''casuarina''). Its biggest settlements are Mildura and Swan Hill. At the 2011 census, the four local government areas (LGAs) that are usually thought to define the district had a combined population of . Road Districts Of Victoria (Australia)
Road districts were established in the colony of Victoria, Australia, pursuant to legislation passed in 1853 and were an early form of local government in Victoria. The districts were outside towns, which were instead incorporated either as municipalities or boroughs. The road districts were created between 1853 and 1871. Road districts were established after public meetings to discuss boundaries etc. followed by a petition to the governor. Upon the proclamation of a district a public meeting was held to elect officers of the Road Board, which was responsible for the building and maintenance of local roads and bridges and raised finance from rates levied on landowners. Culgoa, Victoria
Culgoa is a town in the Mallee region in the north west of the Australian state of Victoria. The town is approximately from the state capital, Melbourne. At the 2021 census, Culgoa had a population of 86, declining from 101 in 2016. Primary production in the area is predominantly wheat and barley, with some legume and oil crops. Sheep numbers have been down since the drought took hold in the early 2000s. The Post Office opened on 27 May 1893 as Kaneira shortly after the arrival of the railway and was renamed Culgoa in 1920. In 2006 the post office was relocated to the Culgoa Community Store which is a community owned not for profit business to meet the daily needs of the locals. In 2003 when it looked like the local store would close the community formed a co-operative and purchased the store to run for themselves. Berriwillock is a town in the Mallee region in the north-west of the Australian state of Victoria. Berriwillock is north-west of the state capital, Melbourne. Nearby towns include Boigbeat (about north west and Culgoa south east. Berriwillock is due west of the Murray River and is a vibrant grain producing community. Transport Berriwillock is adjacent to the Calder Highway, northwest of Melbourne. It was formerly served by the Berriwillock railway station on the Kulwin railway line. The line has not carried passenger services since 1977, but is still available for freight (bulk grain), and there are bulk grain silos at the station.
