Shire Of Upper Gascoyne
The Shire of Upper Gascoyne is a local government area in the Gascoyne region of Western Australia, inland from Carnarvon and about north of the state capital, Perth. The Shire has an area of , much of which is uninhabited land or sparsely vegetated sheep station country, and its seat of government is the small town of Gascoyne Junction. It has a population of 170 ( 2021 census), 56% of whom identify as Aboriginal. History The Upper Gascoyne Road District was gazetted on 10 February 1887. On 1 July 1961, it became a Shire under the ''Local Government Act 1960'', which reformed all remaining road districts into shires. The original Road Board office is now a heritage-listed site. The State Register of Heritage Places is the heritage register of historic sites in Western Australia deemed significant at the state level by the Heritage Council of Western Australia. History In the 1970s, following its establishment of the National Trust of Western Australia, the National Trust created a set of classified properties, and following legislation requiring inventories, Local Government authorities in Western Australia produced a subsequent set of Municipal Inventories, which then resulted in items then being included in the state register. Lionel Kelly
Lionel Francis Kelly (22 January 1897 – 16 April 1977) was an Australian politician who was a member of the Legislative Assembly of Western Australia from 1941 to 1968. He was initially elected as an independent, but in 1946 joined the Labor Party. He served as a minister in the government of Albert Hawke from 1953 to 1959. Early life Kelly was born in Perth to Margaret Ann (née Campbell) and John Kelly. He attended Christian Brothers' College, Perth, and after leaving school went to the Gascoyne, managing a station near Gascoyne Junction. He served on the Upper Gascoyne Road Board from 1927 to 1928. Everard Darlot
Everard Firebrace Darlot (23 January 1859 – 5 November 1937) was an Australian pastoralist and politician who was a member of the Legislative Assembly of Western Australia from 1890 to 1894, representing the seat of Murchison. Darlot was born in Oakleigh, Victoria (on the outskirts of Melbourne), and arrived in Western Australia in 1878. His brother Leonard Darlot (who also became an MP) arrived in 1882, and the two initially worked at Beringarra Station, which was owned by their father.
