The Shire of Kilkivan was a local government area about north-northwest of Brisbane, the state capital of Queensland, Australia. The shire covered an area of , and existed from 1886 until its merger with several other local government areas to form the Gympie Region on 15 March 2008. History The Kilkivan area was the centre of a gold rush in the late 1860s. As the gold was mined out, agriculture became established in the region. Kilkivan Division was created on 1 July 1886 from the western part of the Widgee Division and part of the Barambah Division under the ''Divisional Boards Act 1879''. However, the changes to Widgee's boundaries were not welcomed by the Widgee Divisional Board; they felt so much territory had been removed from Widgee Division that it was effectively abolished and the board members all threatened to resign in protest. Lower Wonga is a rural locality in the Gympie Region, Queensland, Australia. In the Lower Wonga had a population of 344 people. Geography The locality is predominantly flat cleared freehold land (80–100 metres above sea level) used for grazing, apart from an unnamed peak of 450 metres in the far south-west of the locality. Widgee Creek (a tributary of the Mary River) meanders from south to north through the east part of the locality. The Wide Bay Highway passes from east to west through the northern part of the locality. History Wonga State School opened on 27 January 1914 and was renamed Wonga Lower State School in 1918. Geography The Wide Bay Highway passes through from east to west. The town is positioned centrally within the locality. Coleman is a neighbourhood in the north of the locality (). The Nanango railway line enters the locality from the north (Cinnabar), passes through Colman railway station () in the north of the locality and then to the town served by Kinbombi railway station () and then exits the locality to the west (Goomeri). Johnstown is a rural locality split between the South Burnett Region and the Gympie Region, both in Queensland, Australia. In the Johnstown had a population of 30 people. History The locality name is derived from a pastoral run held in 1854 by John Stephen Ferriter. The run is shown on an 1872 map of Southern Queensland, south of the Stephenton run which was also held by Ferriter, suggesting the names of the runs derive from Ferriter's given names. Johnstown Provisional School opened on 27 March 1916 and closed on 1 September 1924. It reopened on 18 April 1933 and closed on 20 February 1935. Goomeri ( ) is a rural town and Suburbs and localities (Australia), locality in the Gympie Region, Queensland, Australia. In the , the locality of Goomeri had a population of 664 people. Geography The town is located on the intersection of the Burnett Highway, Burnett, Bunya Highway, Bunya and Wide Bay Highways, from the state capital, Brisbane. Geography The town is situated on the Wide Bay Highway, north of the state capital, Brisbane and west of Gympie. One Mile Creek () meanders through the town, east of the Wide Bay Highway. The town lies in the Mary River drainage basin. Rossmore is a neighbourhood within the locality to the south-west of the town of Kilkivan (). History Kilkivan was first inhabited by the Wakka Wakka tribe of the Australian Aboriginal peoples. The town was first settled by Europeans in the 1840s.
