The Shire of Creswick was a local government area about west-northwest of Melbourne, the state capital of Victoria, Australia. The shire covered an area of , and existed from 1859 until 1995. History Creswick was first incorporated as a road district on 11 January 1859, and became a shire on 31 December 1863. The Grampians is an economic rural region located in the western part of Victoria, Australia. The region lies to the northwest of the western suburbs of Greater Melbourne, to the state's western border with South Australia and includes the Grampians National Park and significant gold mining heritage assets. Road Districts Of Victoria (Australia)
Road districts were established in the colony of Victoria, Australia, pursuant to legislation passed in 1853 and were an early form of local government in Victoria. The districts were outside towns, which were instead incorporated either as municipalities or boroughs. The road districts were created between 1853 and 1871. Road districts were established after public meetings to discuss boundaries etc. followed by a petition to the governor. Upon the proclamation of a district a public meeting was held to elect officers of the Road Board, which was responsible for the building and maintenance of local roads and bridges and raised finance from rates levied on landowners. Smeaton is a rural town in the state of Victoria (Australia), Victoria, Australia, near the town of Creswick, Victoria, Creswick. At the , Smeaton had a population of 231. Newlyn is a small, rural town in the Shire of Hepburn, in west-central Victoria, Australia. It is located northeast of Ballarat and northwest of Melbourne. It is 452 metres above sea level. Allendale (aka Allandale) is a town in Victoria, Australia, located north-east of Creswick, in the Shire of Hepburn. At the , Allendale and the surrounding area had a population of 166. The town began as a mining settlement around the Berry Leads mining area. It had a peak population of about 1,500. The Shire of Hepburn is a local government area in Victoria, Australia, located in the central part of the state. It covers an area of and, in the 2021 Census the shire had a population of 16,604. It includes the towns of Clunes, Creswick, Daylesford, Hepburn Springs and Trentham and the villages of Glenlyon, Allendale, Kingston, Leonard's Hill, Lyonville, Newlyn, Denver and Smeaton.
