The Shire of Buln Buln was a local government area about east-southeast of Melbourne, the state capital of Victoria, Australia. The shire covered an area of , and existed from 1878 until 1994. History Buln Buln was first incorporated as a shire on 20 September 1878. Its eastern part split away on 9 December 1881, to form the Shire of Warragul (Warragul was proclaimed a rural city in 1990), while its southern part split away on 29 May 1891, to form the Shire of Korumburra. West Gippsland
West Gippsland, a region of Gippsland in Victoria, Australia, extends from the southeastern limits of metropolitan Melbourne and Western Port Bay in the west to the Latrobe Valley in the east, and is bounded by the Strzelecki Ranges to the south and the Mount Baw Baw Plateau in the Great Dividing Range to the north. Geography The western part of the region around Western Port Bay and the Bunyip River is mostly flat (much of it having been reclaimed from the drained Koo Wee Rup Swamp), while the eastern part consists of low rolling hills. To the north these hills become steeper as they merge into the Great Dividing Range. In the mountainous north around Noojee logging remains an important industry, while a small winter resort is located to the northeast at Mount Baw Baw. Noojee
Noojee is a town in the Gippsland region of Victoria, Australia, north of Warragul and east of Melbourne, in the Baw Baw local government area. At the 2016 census, Noojee and the surrounding area had a population of 157. The town benefits from tourists passing through to the Mount Baw Baw Alpine Resort, 48 kilometres away, as it is the last stop with tourism services. There are also a number of walks in the area, including the Noojee Trestle Bridge, a 100m wooden rail bridge. It was first settled after gold was found in the area in the 1860s. Noojee became a major timber town when the railway connected the town to Warragul in 1919. Noojee Post Office opened on 3 May 1920, though an earlier office had been open between 1902 and 1904. The town was destroyed by bushfires in 1926 and again in the Black Friday fires of 1939. Neerim South, Victoria
Neerim South is a town in West Gippsland, Victoria, Australia, located in the Shire of Baw Baw, east of Melbourne and north of Warragul. At the 2016 census, Neerim South had a population of 1,305. The Post Office opened on 1 February 1883. The town was connected to the Victorian Railways network with the opening of a branch line from the main Gippsland line at Warragul on 18 March 1892, later connecting to Noojee in 1919. The line closed in 1958. The Neerim South Court of Petty Sessions closed in 1968. Elementary education is provided by Neerim South Primary School Secondary education is provided at Neerim District Secondary College The town's main industry is service to the local farming community. Longwarry is a town in Victoria, Australia, south-east of Melbourne's Central Business District, located within the Shires of Baw Baw and Cardinia local government areas. Longwarry recorded a population of 2,436 at the 2021 census. It has one primary school, Longwarry Primary School. Longwarry is bypassed by the Princes Freeway. History The railway arrived in 1879 and a post office opened on 20 June 1881. The post office was renamed Longwarry South (later Ripplebrook) on 1 September 1882, the same day a new office, named Longwarry, opened near the railway station. Labertouche, Victoria
Labertouche is a locality in Victoria, Australia, located on Jacksons Track, in the Shire of Baw Baw. At the 2016 census, Labertouche had a population of 356. The first post office in Labertouche opened on 5 April 1876. The locality is named after Peter Paul Labertouche, the Secretary of the Victorian Railways Department in the late nineteenth century, and who descended from an Irish Huguenots family. A school was opened in 1880 and continues to operate. The tree species ''Grevillea barklyana'' is endemic to an area near Labertouche. Jindivick, Victoria
Jindivick is a town in Victoria, Australia, located on Jacksons Track, in the Shire of Baw Baw. The town was first established in 1858 by Joseph Jackson. The word ‘Jindivick’ is an Aboriginal word that is translated to, ‘burst asunder’. History In 1858, Jindivick was established by Joseph Henry Jackson who blazed a track that he named ‘Jackson’s Track’. This track was initially intended to help pastoralists and miners travel from one area to another and to reach Mount Baw Baw. Due to this demand by travellers, in 1877, a general store opened for business in the southern part of the district and a school was later started. The Shire of Baw Baw is a local government area in Victoria, Australia, in the eastern part of the state. It covers an area of and in June 2018 had a population of 52,015. It includes the towns of Drouin, Longwarry, Neerim South, Trafalgar, Warragul and Yarragon. Graeme Butler is a heritage architect who has practiced in Melbourne, Australia for near to 40 years. He is principal of the heritage firm ''Graeme Butler & Associates'', and author of many urban conservation and heritage studies and the authority on the Californian bungalow in Australia, which has been described as ''...the quintessential work on the form''.
