Ship Of Lost Women
''The Ship of Condemned Women'' (Italian: ''La nave delle donne maledette'') is a 1953 Italian historical adventure-melodrama film written and directed by Raffaello Matarazzo and starring Kerima, May Britt and Ettore Manni. It is loosely based on the novel ''Histoire de 130 femmes'' by Léon Gozlan. The film's sets were designed by the art director Piero Filippone. Synopsis A young woman wrongly convicted or murder is sentenced to serve in a penal colony, departs on a ship carrying a hundred female prisoners. Raffaello Matarazzo
Raffaello Matarazzo (17 August 1909 – 17 May 1966) was an Italian filmmaker. Life Matarazzo started writing film reviews for the Roman newspaper ''Il Tevere'' before re-editing scripts for the Italian film company Cines. His first films were comedies until he shifted to making melodramas. With '' Catene'', produced by Titanus in 1949, he became the most successful director in Italy. Audience loved his melodramas. Critics, however, have tended to disparage his work, saying that Matarazzo films were ''Neorealismo d'appendice'' (neorealism wannabe). Since the 1970s, some film critics have tried to restore Matarazzo's reputation. French magazine '' Positif'' loved his erotic-historical peplum '' Ship of Lost Women''. Mammola Sandon, known by the stage name of Flo Sandon's (29 June 1924 – 17 November 2006), was an Italian singer who was popular in the post-World War II years. She won the Sanremo Music Festival in 1953 with the song " Viale d'autunno". Career Sandon was born in Vicenza, in Veneto. Her musical career began in 1944 when she made her stage début in a Red Cross charity show. Her stage name ''Sandon's'' came by chance - it was an oversight by the illustrator who prepared her first record cover. Her first big break as a professional vocalist came in 1947, when she sang in The Hot Club of France with two jazz legends: guitarist Django Reinhardt, and violinist Stéphane Grappelli. Celebrity came in 1952 thanks to the movie ''Anna'' directed by Alberto Lattuada and starring Silvana Mangano, Vittorio Gassman and Raf Vallone. Giovanna Ralli, (born 2 January 1935), is an Italian stage, film and television actress. Life and career Born in Rome, Ralli debuted as a child actress at 7; at 13 she made her theatrical debut, entering the stage company of Peppino De Filippo. After appearing in Federico Fellini and Alberto Lattuada's ''Variety Lights'' (1950), Ralli had her first film roles of weight in mid-fifties, often in comedy films. Carla Mignone, known by her stage name Milly, (Alessandria, Piemonte, Kingdom of Italy; 26 February 1905 - Nepi, Viterbo, Italy; 22 September 1980) was an Italian singer, actress and cabaret performer. Biography Her father abandoned her family in 1910 and she was brought up by her mother. She was the sister of Italian comedian Totò Mignone, with whom, along with her sister Mity, she performed as a child. Eduardo Ciannelli (30 August 1888 – 8 October 1969), was an Italian baritone and character actor with a long career in American films, mostly playing gangsters and criminals. He was sometimes credited as Edward Ciannelli. Early life Ciannelli was born in Lacco Ameno, on the island of Ischia, where his father, a doctor, owned a health spa.
