Shimmy Rivers And Canal
Shimmy Rivers and and Canal was a UK beat combo that was formed in Dalston, London in 2003. In 2005 Resonance FM released a collection of demo recordings. The same year, the band played at Resonance FM's 3rd Anniversary event at the Conway Hall, and in 2006–2007 hosted the station's 'Daddy Said So Land' radio show. Shimmy Rivers and and Canal disbanded in February 2009, playing a final gig at Barden's Boudoir on February 27. The band agreed to release a 7" record, first on White Heat, then on the Siltbreeze record label, however, both bailed. Their debut album, ''Forks'', recorded and mixed by Capitol K, was left available in 2009. Garret Rusk
A garret is a habitable attic, a living space at the top of a house or larger residential building, traditionally, small, dismal, and cramped, with sloping ceilings. In the days before elevators this was the least prestigious position in a building, at the very top of the stairs. Beat music, British beat, or Merseybeat is a British popular music genre that developed, particularly in and around Liverpool, in the late 1950s and early 1960s. The genre melded influences from American rock and roll, rhythm and blues, skiffle, traditional pop and music hall. It rose to mainstream popularity in the UK and Europe by 1963 before spreading to the North America in 1964 with the British Invasion. Resonance FM
Resonance 104.4 FM is a London based non-profit community radio station specialising in the arts run by the London Musicians' Collective (LMC). The station is staffed by four permanent staff members, including programme controller Ed Baxter and over 300 volunteer technical and production staff. Until September 2007, its studios were located on Denmark Street before moving to its present location at 144 Borough High Street, Southwark. The station broadcasts to a radius on 104.4 MHz FM from a transmitter on the roof of Guy's Hospital at London Bridge. The Conway Hall Ethical Society, formerly the South Place Ethical Society, based in London at Conway Hall, is thought to be the oldest surviving freethought organisation in the world and is the only remaining ethical society in the United Kingdom. Siltbreeze
Siltbreeze is an American independent record label based in Philadelphia. It is known for its eclectic roster of artists and releases of experimental, noise, folk, and rock-based music. Founded in 1989 by Ohio native Tom Lax, the label evolved out of a zine of the same name which he published from 1987 until 1992. The first label release was a Halo of Flies EP, and soon after, Lax produced a steady stream of record releases by The Dead C, The Gibson Bros., Sebadoh, The Strapping Fieldhands, Harry Pussy, Jim Shepard, and Mike Rep among others throughout the early and mid 1990s. The label slowed its output toward the later 1990s until the mid and late 2000s. Capitol K is the name under which Kristian Craig Robinson works as a musician, producer, recording engineer and label manager. He was born in Malta and raised in Dubai, Brunei and England, and now based in London. Capitol K first came to prominence from the single "Pillow" which peaked in the UK Singles Chart at number 99 on 9 March 2002. His early releases combined, found sound, lo-fi aside hi-fi production, electronica and Indie-pop that went someway to establishing the folktronica genre along with fellow artists, Leafcutter John, Four Tet and Tunng. Stolen Recordings is a British independent record label founded by two musicians, Paul Jones and Mérida Sussex and one artist, Rachael Robb, and is based in Tottenham, London. Stolen's first release was in May 2005. In 2009 they founded a publishing company, in association with Beggars Music, called "Stolen Publishing".
