Shim Jae-chul
Shim Jae-chul ( ko, 심재철; Hanja: 沈在哲 RR: ''Sim Jae-cheol''; born 18 January 1958) is a South Korean journalist and politician. He is a current member of the National Assembly and the Floor Leader of the United Future Party. Early life and career He was born in Gwangju. He became an activist during Gwangju Uprising in 1980. He graduated Seoul University department of English education. He later worked as a journalist of MBC in the late 1980s and early 1990s. He joined the New Korea Party following the recommendation from the ex-president Kim Young-sam, in 1996. Shim was elected as the representative of Dongan-gu for the 16th National Assembly of the Republic of Korea in 2000. He has been reelected four times. Revised Romanization Of Korean
Revised Romanization of Korean () is the official Korean language romanization system in South Korea. It was developed by the National Academy of the Korean Language from 1995 and was released to the public on 7 July 2000 by South Korea's Ministry of Culture and Tourism in Proclamation No. 2000-8. The new system addressed problems in the implementation of the McCune–Reischauer system, such as the phenomena where different consonants and vowels became indistinguishable in the absence of special symbols. To be specific, under the McCune–Reischauer system, Korean consonants ''(k)'', ''(t)'', ''(p)'' and ''(ch)'' and ''(kʼ)'', ''(tʼ)'', ''(pʼ)'' and ''(chʼ)'' became indistinguishable when the apostrophe was removed. Moon Jae-in (; ; born 24 January 1953) is a South Korean former politician, civil servant and lawyer who served as the 12th president of South Korea between 2017 and 2022. Prior to his presidency, he served as Senior Secretary for Civil Affairs and Chief of Staff to President Roh Moo-hyun, Member of the National Assembly, and Leader of the Democratic Party of Korea. Born to North Korean refugees of House of Moon in Hamhung, Moon was raised in poverty in the southern port city of Busan. He excelled in school and studied law at Kyung Hee University. He became a lawyer and later involved in human rights activism with Roh Moo-hyun. He was imprisoned for organizing a protest against the Yushin Constitution. As a result of his work in human rights law, Moon was chosen to be the campaign manager for his longtime mentor Roh Moo-hyun in his successful bid for the 2002 presidential election. Sewol Sinking
The ferry MV ''Sewol'' sank on the morning of April 16, 2014, en route from Incheon towards Jeju in South Korea. The 6,825-ton vessel sent a distress signal from about north of Byeongpungdo at 08:58 KST (23:58 UTC, April 15, 2014). Out of 476 passengers and crew, 306 died in the disaster, including around 250 students from Danwon High School ( Ansan City). Of the approximately 172 survivors, more than half were rescued by fishing boats and other commercial vessels that arrived at the scene approximately 40 minutes before the Korea Coast Guard (KCG). Rhyu Si-min (; born July 28, 1959) is a South Korean politician who served as the 44th Minister of Health and Welfare from February 2006 to May 2007. Before starting his political career since August 2002, he was a journalist of ''Dong-a Ilbo'' and ''The Hankyoreh'', with having his continuous progressive and liberal attitudes. The New Conservative Party () was a South Korean conservative political party officially founded in 2020. History The New Conservative Party was originally formed as the Emergency Action for Change and Innovation (Korean: 변화와 혁신을 위한 비상행동) on 30 September 2019. The group, organized within the Bareunmirae Party, was made up of 15 lawmakers who were critical toward the leadership of Sohn Hak-kyu. Yoo Seong-min, the former co-chairman of the Bareunmirae Party, was chosen as the organizational leader.
