Shillong Lajong FC (founded as Lajong SC) is an Indian professional football club based in Shillong, Meghalaya, that competes in the Shillong Premier League. The club was established in 1983 with the prime objective of improving the declining standard of football in the state, and to spot, train and nurture local talent. In the local Khasi language, ''Lajong'' translates to "our own". Nicknamed "the red dragons", they previously competed in the I-League, then top flight of Indian football league system. Headquartered in Shillong, Lajong has access to the largest student population in the North-East and hence the football talent right from a young age. Lajong is under professional management and has a strong fan base across the North-East, which is being actively developed. Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium locally known as Polo Ground is a football stadium in Shillong, Meghalaya, India. It is used mainly for football and has most notably hosted the home matches of Shillong Lajong FC in the I-League. The stadium has a seating capacity of 30,000 spectators. History The stadium is a two tier stadium with a roof over the main stand. An artificial turf named Astroturf is laid down in 2012. The stadium is generally hosted I-League matches. Before professional football was played in Shillong, the stadium was created for football and running use. Both sports were played at an amateur level. Pradhyum Reddy (born 31 May 1976) is a Scottish born football manager based in India. He is now the CEO of Dempo and also works as football pundit in the Indian Super League and TV show Football United.
