Shikara
The shikara is a type of wooden boat found on Dal Lake and other water bodies of Srinagar in Jammu and Kashmir Shikaras are of various sizes and are used for multiple purposes, including transportation. A usual shikara seats six people, with the driver paddling at the rear. Like the Venetian gondolas, they are a cultural symbol of Kashmir. Some shikaras are still used for fishing, harvesting aquatic vegetation (usually for fodder), and transport, while most are covered with tarpaulins and are used by tourists. Some are used as floating homes. Construction The craft relies on deodar wood (which does not decompose in water) ranges from 25 to 41 feet in length. The pointed front end is followed by a central section made of 8 planks of wood and the boat eventually ends in a flat rear segment. ''Shikhara'' (IAST: '), a Sanskrit word translating literally to "mountain peak", refers to the rising tower in the Hindu temple architecture of North India, and also often used in Jain temples. A ''shikhara'' over the ''garbhagriha'' chamber where the presiding deity is enshrined is the most prominent and visible part of a Hindu temple of North India. In South India, the equivalent term is ''vimana''; unlike the ''shikhara'', this refers to the whole building, including the sanctum beneath. In the south, ''shikhara'' is a term for the top stage of the vimana only, which is usually a dome capped with a finial; this article is concerned with the northern form. Shikra
The shikra (''Accipiter badius'') is a small bird of prey in the family Accipitridae found widely distributed in Asia and Africa where it is also called the little banded goshawk. The African forms may represent a separate species but have usually been considered as subspecies of the shikra. The shikra is very similar in appearance to other sparrowhawk species including the Chinese goshawk and Eurasian sparrowhawk. They have a sharp two note call and have the typical flap and glide flight. Their calls are imitated by drongos and the common hawk-cuckoo resembles it in plumage. Taxonomy The shikra was formally described in 1788/1789 by the German naturalist Johann Friedrich Gmelin in his revised and expanded edition of Carl Linnaeus's ''Systema Naturae''. He placed it with the eagles, hawks and relatives in the genus '' Falco'' and coined the binomial name ''Falco badius''. Sikra
Sikra is a village in Bhachau Taluka of Kutch district of Gujarat, India. History Sikra was once been a large and flourishing town. The chief remains are those of a temple of Mahadev Kageshvar, where, according to the story, Dharan Vaghelo, the great grandfather of Lakha Phulani, used to come every day to worship. The ruins are overgrown with trees. A little to the south of the village, once it is said the heart of the city, is a saint's shrine, and two strong and well built Momna Kanbi tombs built in 1666 (Samvat 1723). Near the shrine is a Jain temple of solid masonry built in 1716 (Samvat 1773) and dedicated to Vasupujya. The marble image of Vasupujya, when in 1785 (Samvat 1842) threatened by the Miyanas, was taken to Adhoi. Near the temple are many memorial stones, one of them bearing as old a date as 1003 (Samvat 1060). ''Shikar'' () is a 1968 Hindi thriller film produced and directed by Atma Ram. The film is a murder mystery that became a box office hit and its songs were also big hits. It stars Dharmendra, Asha Parekh, Sanjeev Kumar, Helen, Rehman, Johnny Walker, Bela Bose, Ramesh Deo in pivotal roles. The music of the film was composed by Shankar-Jaikishan and its songs were penned by Hasrat Jaipuri. While it received mixed reviews from critics, the audience was critical of the film for failing to tell the untold story of Kashmiri Pandits, as claimed.
