Sherman Historic District (Sherman, Connecticut)
The Sherman Historic District encompasses the historic town center of Sherman, Connecticut. It covers an historic district area centered on the junction of Connecticut Routes 37 and 39, and consists mostly of residential structures, some of them dating to not long after the town's incorporation in 1740. Most of the village center was developed in the 19th century. Notable buildings include the 1837 Greek Revival Center Church (now used as a performance space), the 1886 Old Town Hall, and the 1926 Colonial Revival library building. and The district was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1991. Sherman Hill Historic District
The Sherman Hill Historic District is located in Des Moines, Iowa, United States. It is one of the oldest residential suburbs in Des Moines. Single-family houses were constructed beginning around 1880 and multi-family dwellings were built between 1900 and 1920. The district encompasses 80 acres (0.32 km2) and 210 buildings and is bounded by 15th Street to the East, High Street to the South, Martin Luther King Parkway on the West, and School Street to the North. The historic district has been listed on the National Register of Historic Places since 1979. History Sherman Hill took its name in the early 1970s, borrowed from the name of Hoyt Sherman Place, which is located in the southeast part of the neighborhood. Sherman Avenue Historic District
The Sherman Avenue Historic District is a historic neighborhood along Lake Mendota on the east end of the isthmus in Madison, Wisconsin, Madison, Wisconsin, United States, consisting mostly of middle class houses built from the mid 1890s to the late 1920s. In 1988 the district was listed on the National Register of Historic Places. History The area along Sherman Avenue was part of James Duane Doty, James Doty's original 1836 plat of Madison, but because much of the area was marshy, it developed later than other parts of Madison like the busy town center around the capitol. However, in 1850 Leonard J. Farwell, Leonard Farwell straightened and dammed the Yahara River and built a saw and flour mill on a hill across the Yahara. Tibbets and Gordon built a brewery in the same area at the same time. In 1854 a house was built at what would become the corner of Brearly and Gorham Streets.
