Sherman Crater
Sherman Crater is an active volcanic crater of Mount Baker in the U.S. state of Washington situated between Sherman Peak and Grant Peak. Historical eruptions During recorded history, eruptions at Mount Baker have mainly occurred from Sherman Crater. The earliest historical eruption took place in 1843, with more recent eruptions having occurred in 1852–1853, 1854, 1858, 1859–1860, 1863, 1870 and 1880. These eruptions ranked 2 and 3 on the Volcanic Explosivity Index. Possible but unconfirmed eruptions may have also occurred in 1850, 1856, 1860, 1865, 1867, 1869 and 1884. 1975 activity In March 1975, local observers noted a dark column rising from Sherman Crater that sharply contrasted with previous white steam emissions. The Cascade Range or Cascades is a major mountain range of western North America, extending from southern British Columbia through Washington and Oregon to Northern California. It includes both non-volcanic mountains, such as the North Cascades, and the notable volcanoes known as the High Cascades. The small part of the range in British Columbia is referred to as the Canadian Cascades or, locally, as the Cascade Mountains. Concrete, Washington
Concrete is a town in north-central Skagit County, Washington, United States. It is part of the Mount Vernon- Anacortes, Washington Metropolitan Statistical Area, and had a population of 705 at the 2010 census. Early history The town of Concrete has undergone several incarnations, the earliest being a settlement at the northwestern junction of the Baker and Skagit Rivers, known as "Minnehaha." Lake Shannon
Lake Shannon is a long, narrow reservoir on the Baker River in Skagit County, Washington in the United States. Formed in the 1920s by the construction of an arch dam just above the town of Concrete, the lake is approximately long and averages wide when full. Located just outside the western boundary of North Cascades National Park, Lake Shannon serves as the lower reservoir for Puget Sound Energy's Baker River Hydroelectric Project. Before the creation of Lake Shannon, the area was used primarily for fur trapping, logging, and concrete making. The construction of Lower Baker Dam blocked salmon migration in the Baker River.
