Sheriff Of Worcester
This is a list of sheriffs and since 1998 high sheriffs of Worcestershire. The Sheriff is the oldest secular office under the Crown. Formerly the Sheriff was the principal law enforcement officer in the county but over the centuries most of the responsibilities associated with the post have been transferred elsewhere or are now defunct, so that its functions are now largely ceremonial. Under the provisions of the Local Government Act 1972, on 1 April 1974 the office previously known as Sheriff was retitled High Sheriff. Under the same act Herefordshire and Worcestershire were merged to form the new county of Hereford and Worcester, therefore the office of Sheriff of Worcestershire was replaced by that of High Sheriff of Hereford and Worcester. Worcestershire
Worcestershire ( , ; written abbreviation: Worcs) is a county in the West Midlands of England. The area that is now Worcestershire was absorbed into the unified Kingdom of England in 927, at which time it was constituted as a county (see History of Worcestershire). Over the centuries the county borders have been modified, but it was not until 1844 that substantial changes were made. Worcestershire was abolished as part of local government reforms in 1974, with its northern area becoming part of the West Midlands and the rest part of the county of Hereford and Worcester. In 1998 the county of Hereford and Worcester was abolished and Worcestershire was reconstituted, again without the West Midlands area. Edward Ferrers (died 1535)
Sir Edward Ferrers (by 1468 – 29 August 1535) of Baddesley Clinton, Warwickshire was an English courtier, knight and Member of Parliament. He was the eldest son of Sir Henry Ferrers of Hambleton, Rutland and East Peckham, Kent and his second wife, Margaret Hextall of East Peckham and widow of William Whetenhall. He succeeded his father in 1500 and was knighted at Tournai in 1513. Introduced at court he became an Esquire of the body by 1509 and a sewer by 1511. He served as a Justice of the Peace for Warwickshire and sat on various commissions. He was pricked High Sheriff of Warwickshire and Leicestershire for 1513–14 and 1518–19. In 1520 he accompanied Henry VIII, along with other knights, to Henry's meeting with Francis I of France at the Field of the Cloth of Gold. William Compton (courtier)
Sir William Compton (c. 1482 – 30 June 1528) was a soldier and one of the most prominent courtiers during the reign of Henry VIII of England. Family and early life Compton was born around 1482, the only son and heir of Edmund Compton of Warwickshire and Joan, the daughter of Walter Aylworth. He was around eleven years of age when his father died in 1493, at which time he became a ward of Henry VII, who appointed him page to Prince Henry, Duke of York. He was about nine years older than Henry, but the two became close friends. Marriage and issue He married firstly, in May 1512, Werburga, the daughter of Sir John Brereton and Katherine Berkeley, and widow of Sir Francis Cheyney. Henry De Beauchamp, 1st Duke Of Warwick
Henry Beauchamp, 14th Earl and Duke of Warwick (22 March 142511 June 1446) was an English nobleman. Life Henry was the son of Richard Beauchamp, 13th Earl of Warwick, and Isabel le Despenser. In 1434, he married Cecily Neville, the eldest daughter of Richard Neville, 5th Earl of Salisbury, and Alice Montagu, Countess of Salisbury. He became 14th Earl of Warwick on his father's death in 1439. His boyhood friendship with King Henry VI and his father's military services placed him high in the King's favour, and he was loaded with titles. In 1444, he was made premier Earl of the realm, and on 14 April 1445, was created Duke of Warwick, and around the same time, granted the Forest of Feckenham. He is said to have been crowned King of the Isle of Wight in 1444 by Henry VI, to place his playmate on a more equal standing with him, but this story is considered unhistorical. William Beauchamp (died C
Rev. E. William Beauchamp, CSC, J.D., was named the University of Portland's 19th president by the Board of Regents on November 20, 2003. He served in that capacity until 2012, at which time he began service for the provincial administration of the Congregation of Holy Cross. Prior to his appointment as president, he had served as the University's senior vice president since August 2002. Beauchamp joined the University from the University of Notre Dame where he served as executive vice president for 13 years, and special assistant to the president for two years. He has taught at the Notre Dame Law School and the Mendoza College of Business Administration. He holds bachelor of science and MBA degrees in accounting from the University of Detroit. Doverdale
Doverdale is a small village and civil parish in Worcestershire, England, to the west of Droitwich. It has a parish church. Doverdale Manor is one of largest properties in the village and is grade II listed. Since 1973 there has been a combined parish council for Ombersley and Doverdale.
