The Sheriff of Clark County, officially The Sheriff of the County of Clark, is the chief law enforcement officer of Clark County, Nevada. The Sheriff heads the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, is elected by the citizens of Clark County, and is an independent agency with joint policing of the City of Las Vegas and of unincorporated Clark County. The sheriff is the only elected head law enforcement officer within the city and county, and, as such, is not under the direct control of the city, county, state, or federal government. The current sheriff is Kevin McMahill, who became sheriff after Republican Joe Lombardo resigned to become Governor of Nevada. Douglas Charles Gillespie (born August 13, 1958) is an American retired law enforcement officer. He served as the 16th Sheriff of Clark County, Nevada from 2007 to 2015. Jerry Paul Keller (born June 20, 1937) is an American pop singer and songwriter, best known for his 1959 hit song "Here Comes Summer". Career Born in Fort Smith, Arkansas, Keller moved with his family to Tulsa, Oklahoma, when he was six, and Keller attended Tulsa's Will Rogers High School, graduating in 1955. He was known as a vocal soloist in various school productions, and was often invited to do guest vocals with top bands touring the area. He formed the group and was a member of the Tulsa Boy Singers. Keller attended the University of Tulsa and moved to New York in 1956. Pat Boone, a friend from church, recommended Marty Mills as Keller's manager. Keller's biggest self-penned hit was 1959's "Here Comes Summer". In 1959 it climbed to No. 14 in the ''Billboard'' Hot 100. Ralph James Lamb (April 10, 1927 – July 3, 2015) was an American law enforcement officer and the 11th Sheriff of Clark County from 1961 to 1979. He was a member of the Republican Party. Lamb was born in Alamo, Nevada, one of 11 children born to his mother and father. His father, William Grainger Lamb died in a rodeo accident by trying to stop a fractious horse from heading through the crowds on July 3, 1939 in Fallon, Nevada, at the age of 46, when Lamb was 12 years old. His father was buried at Alamo Cemetery in Alamo, Nevada. Lamb and his siblings took odd jobs to help make ends meet during the Great Depression. He enlisted in the Army and served in the Pacific Theater during World War II. He returned to Nevada and took a position as Clark County Deputy Sheriff. Joseph Michael Lombardo (born November 8, 1962) is an American politician and law enforcement officer serving as the 31st governor of Nevada since January 2023.
