Sheriff (company)
Sheriff (russian: Шериф) is the second-largest company in the unrecognised breakaway state Transnistria. It is based in the city of Tiraspol. Formed in the early 1990s by Viktor Gușan and Ilya Kazmaly, former members of the special services, Sheriff has grown to include nearly all forms of profitable private business in the unrecognised country, and has even become significantly involved in local politics and sport, with some commentators saying that company loyalists hold most main government positions in the territory. Anatoly Dirun, director of the Tiraspol School of Political Studies, stated that "Viktor Gușan is the person with the most influence here, both in politics and economics." Corporate Group
A corporate group or group of companies is a collection of parent and subsidiary corporations that function as a single economic entity through a common source of control. These types of groups are often managed by an account manager. The concept of a group is frequently used in tax law, accounting and (less frequently) company law to attribute the rights and duties of one member of the group to another or the whole. If the corporations are engaged in entirely different businesses, the group is called a conglomerate. FC Sheriff Tiraspol
Fotbal Club Sheriff (russian: ФК Шериф Тирасполь), commonly known as Sheriff Tiraspol or simply Sheriff, is a Moldovan professional football club based in Tiraspol, a city located in the unrecognised breakaway state of Transnistria. Founded in 1997 as ''Tiras Tiraspol'' and rebranded the following year as ''Sheriff'', it quickly established itself within Moldovan football. Anatoliy Vladimirovich Kaminski ( uk, Анато́лій Володи́мирович Камі́нський, russian: Анатолий Владимирович Каминский) (born 15 March 1950 in Baley, Russian SFSR) is an ethnic Ukrainian and a politician from Transnistria, former speaker of Pridnestrovian Supreme Soviet and former chairman of the political party Obnovlenie (Renewal). Personal life Kaminski was born in 1950 in eastern Russia, but his family was of Ukrainian-Polish descent. His family moved to the Moldavian SSR in 1957. Kaminski studied in Odesa, Ukraine, at the M.V. Lomonosov Odessa Institute of Technology. He subsequently worked as a manager at several dairy plants in the MSSR. The mass media of Transnistria, the breakaway territory within the borders of Moldova, features both state-owned or supported outlets and opposition media. Publications are in Russian, with a single newspaper in each of the other two official languages, Moldovan (Romanian), and Ukrainian. Obnovlenie (russian: Обновление, lit=Renewal), officially the Republican Party "Obnovlenie",, , uk, Республіканська партія «Оновлення» is a political party in the unrecognized state of Transnistria, an entity that is internationally recognized as part of Moldova. It has been the parliamentary majority in the Supreme Council since 2005. History The party was founded as a political non-governmental organization in 2000. 2011 Transnistrian Presidential Election
Presidential elections were held in Transnistria on 11 December 2011. As no candidate received more than 50% of the vote in the first round, a run-off was held on 25 December. Candidates Incumbent president Igor Smirnov, running for re-election, had been in power since Transnistria declared independence in 1990, and was not term-limited. Candidate registration was open from 11 September to 11 November. On 14 September, opposition MP and former speaker of the Supreme Council Yevgeny Shevchuk was the first to nominate himself at the CEC. Shevchuk is affiliated with Obnovlenie, who are already supporting Kaminski, signalling a possible split.
