Shereen Flax-Charles
Shereen D. Flax-Charles is a British Virgin Islands politician. She is an At-large representative for the House of Assembly of the British Virgin Islands, a position that she has held since the 2019 general election. She is the current Junior Minister for Trade and Economic Development. Early life Flax-Charles is the daughter of Norma and Andy Flax, who own the Fischer's Cove Beach Hotel in Virgin Gorda. Her sister, Sharon P. Flax-Brutus, serves as director of tourism for the British Virgin Islands and her niece, Sasha D. A. Flax, is the Sister Island coordinator. She is a calypsonian who goes by the name Queen Shereen and signs for the band "It's a Secret". She was the first runner-up in the Calypso Monarch competition in both 2015 and 2016. House Of Assembly Of The British Virgin Islands
The House of Assembly of the British Virgin Islands, until 2007 known as the Legislative Council, has 15 members: 13 directly elected for four-year terms (nine in single-seat constituencies and four "at large"), and two ''ex officio'' members (the Attorney General and a Speaker chosen from outside the house). Sittings of the House of Assembly are divided into " terms" with each term following from a general election. The House of Assembly is presently sitting its fourth term, but the first term of the House of Assembly followed the 15th term of the old Legislative Council. Accordingly, in aggregate the legislature is sitting its 19th term since the restoration of democracy in the Territory. Each term has a series of "sittings". Alvera Maduro-Caines is a British Virgin Islands politician. She is a member of the House of Assembly of the British Virgin Islands for the Sixth District, a position that she has held since the 2011 general election. She was originally elected as a representative of the National Democratic Party but in 2020, she crossed the floor to join the Virgin Islands Party. She is the current Junior Minister for Culture and Tourism. Early life She attended BVI High School in Tortola from 1971 to 1976, and the Gary Training Center in Texas from 1977 to 1979. The Cabinet of the British Virgin Islands (formerly referred to as the Executive Council, or sometimes ExCo) is the collective decision-making body of the British Virgin Islands government. ''The BVI Beacon'' is a weekly British Virgin Islands newspaper founded in June 1984 and published on the island of Tortola.
