Sherbrooke Pirates
The Sherbrooke Pirates (French: ''les Pirates de Sherbrooke'') was the name of a Canadian minor league baseball franchise in the Double-A Eastern League representing Sherbrooke, Québec, that existed from 1972–73. Affiliated with the namesake Pittsburgh Pirates of Major League Baseball, the Sherbrooke club played at le Stade Amedée-Roy. On-field success during two-year stay The Eastern League's expansion into Québec in 1971, with the Trois-Rivières Aigles and the Québec Carnavals, was initially very successful. The 1971 Waterbury Pirates had drawn more than 64,000 fans — fifth in the eight-team league — and moved to Sherbrooke for 1972. Although the 1972 Pirates posted a winning record in their maiden year in Sherbrooke, they did not make the playoffs and attendance lagged far behind that of the other two Québec teams at 66,100. Kent Tekulve
Kenton Charles Tekulve ( ; born March 5, 1947), nicknamed "Teke", is an American former professional baseball right-handed relief pitcher who played 16 seasons in Major League Baseball (MLB), primarily for the Pittsburgh Pirates. He also played for the Philadelphia Phillies and Cincinnati Reds. Pitching with an unusual Submarine (baseball), submarine delivery, Tekulve was known as a workhorse relief pitcher who holds several records for number of games pitched and innings pitched. Career Tekulve is a 1969 graduate of Marietta College in Marietta, Ohio. He signed that year as a free agent with the Pittsburgh Pirates and remained with that organization until 1985. The Thetford Mines Pirates and the Thetford Mines Miners (French: ''les Pirates (Mineurs) de Thetford Mines'') were the names of a Canadian minor league baseball franchise that represented Thetford Mines, Quebec, in the Double-A Eastern League in 1974–75. The club played at le Stade Bellevue. After two winning but non-playoff teams as the Sherbrooke Pirates, the team moved to Thetford Mines, located 104 km (65 miles) to the north, for the 1974 season as an affiliate of the namesake Pittsburgh Pirates of Major League Baseball. Led by league All-Star catcher and Most Valuable Player Ken Macha, the future MLB manager, Thetford Mines made the playoffs and defeated the Bristol Red Sox in the semi-finals and the Pittsfield Rangers in the finals to win the Eastern League championship. Timothy J. Murtaugh (born May 6, 1943 at Chester, Pennsylvania) is an American former professional baseball catcher and manager. The son of former Pittsburgh Pirates infielder and manager Danny Murtaugh, Tim fashioned a 13-year career in the Pirates' farm system (1965–1977), six of them as an active player, and seven as a manager or playing manager. The 5 foot, 11 inch (1.8 m), 195 pound (89 kg) Murtaugh signed with the Pirates after graduating from the College of the Holy Cross. A switch hitter, he threw right-handed.
