Sheppey United F.C. is a football club based on the Isle of Sheppey in Kent. The club are members of the and play at Holm Park. The club is affiliated to the Football Association and is an FA Charter Standard club. History Origin of football on the Isle of Sheppey As in most parts of the UK, football began to make an appearance on the Isle of Sheppey in the middle of the 19th Century with local records showing teams active on the island from the 1860s onwards. Three clubs rose to prominence in this time – Sheppey Rovers, Invicta and Victoria. By the 1880s Sheppey Rovers had ceased playing with their players joining either Invicta or Victoria. In time for the 1888 Kent Merit Badge competition (the immediate precursor to today's Kent Senior Cup) the Invicta and Victoria made the decision to enter a joint side named "Sheerness" in order to challenge the two pre-eminent sides in the competition, Arsenal and Chatham Town. Jack Midson
Jack William Midson (born 12 September 1983) is an English semi-professional footballer who plays for Sheppey United where he is player-manager. Midson was the 2011–12 League Two joint top scorer, along with Izale McLeod, Lewis Grabban and Adebayo Akinfenwa, with 18 goals and scored 20 goals in all competitions during the 2011–12 season for AFC Wimbledon, finishing the season as their top scorer. He was AFC Wimbledon's top scorer the following season as well, scoring 15 goals in all competitions and 13 in the league. Career Semi-professional Midson was born in Stevenage, Hertfordshire. He was a tennis and football coach in Cambridgeshire and Enfield as well as a semi-professional footballer. The 1931–32 season was the 34th in the history of the Southern Football League, Southern League. The league consisted of Eastern and Western Divisions. Dartford F.C., Dartford won the Eastern Division for the second successive season, whilst newly elected Yeovil Town F.C., Yeovil & Petters United won the Western Division. Dartford were declared Southern League champions after winning a championship play-off 2–1. The 1930–31 season was the 33rd in the history of the Southern League. The league consisted of Eastern and Western Divisions. Dartford won the Eastern Division on goal average (had goal difference been used, Aldershot Town would have been champions) and Exeter City reserves won the Western Division. Dartford were declared Southern League champions after winning a championship play-off 7–2. Two clubs from the Southern League applied to join the Football League, although neither were successful. Danny Shea (footballer)
Daniel Harold Shea (6 November 1887 – 25 December 1960) was an English footballer who played as an inside-forward. Football career West Ham United Born in Wapping, London, Shea played for the Builders Arms pub in Stratford, as well as other local teams Pearl United and Manor Park Albion, when he was discovered by West Ham United boss Charlie Paynter. He joined the Hammers in 1907, making his debut as an amateur against Norwich City in a December Southern League game. He was the club's top scorer for four consecutive seasons between 1908 and 1912, His 15 Southern League goals in were enough to record a fifth season as the club's top league scorer in 1912–13; a recently rerecruited George Hilsdon claimed the main honour with his four FA Cup goals taking him to 17 in all competitions. Ted Harper
Edward Cashfield Harper (22 August 1901 – 22 July 1959) was an English footballer, who played at centre-forward scoring a then record high of 43 league goals in a season in 1925–26 for Blackburn Rovers. He also holds the record for Preston North End scoring 37 goals in Division Two in the 1932–33 season. Born in Sheerness, Ted played in Kent junior football and for Whitstable Town and Sheppey United before joining Blackburn in 1923. During his career he played for Blackburn Rovers (1923–1927 and 1933–1934), Sheffield Wednesday (1927–1929); Tottenham Hotspur (1929–1931) and Preston North End (1931–1933) in the Football League. In 1925-26 he scored 43 league goals for Blackburn Rovers which was a top flight record until Dixie Dean scored 60 for Everton 2 seasons later.
