Camp Shenango
Camp Reynolds was a World War II Army Camp from 1942 to 1946. Its original name was Shenango Personnel Replacement Depot (commonly referred to as Camp Shenango). On September 21, 1943 it was renamed Camp Reynolds after PA Civil War hero Major General John Fulton Reynolds who was killed on July 1st, the first day of the battle of Gettysburg. The camp was located in Pymatuning & Delaware Township in Mercer County, PA. In 1994, the Pennsylvania Historical & Museum Commission placed a historical marker there to note the historic importance of the location. History On June 24, 1942 the United States Department of War announced the authorization and award of contracts totaling more than $3,000,000 for construction of a military installation near Shenango, Pennsylvania to receive, process, and forward both officers and enlisted men for service during World War II. Shenango Township is a township in Lawrence County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 7,133 at the 2020 census, a decline from the figure of 7,479 tabulated in 2010. Shenango Township is situated between the city of New Castle to the north and the borough of Ellwood City to the south. Geography According to the United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of 24.4 square miles (63.3 km2), of which 24.4 square miles (63.2 km2) is land and 0.04% is water. Shenango Township is a township in Mercer County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 3,519 at the 2020 census, down from 3,929 in 2010. Geography According to the United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of 29.9 square miles (77.5 km2), of which 29.9 square miles (77.4 km2) is land and 0.1 square mile (0.1 km2) (0.17%) is water.
