Shen Fa-hui
Shen Fa-hui (; born 2 November 1966) is a Taiwanese politician. Career Shen studied law at Tunghai University, and later earned a master's in public administration from National Taiwan University. While in college, he was active in the Wild Lily student movement and later worked for Frank Hsieh as a legislative assistant and with Chen Shui-bian's 1994 Taipei mayoral campaign. Within the Democratic Progressive Party, Shen was affiliated with the New Tide faction. He has also led the DPP's Policy Committee. Following his tenure within the policy committee, Shen became a member of the party's central standing committee. Shen served on the Taipei County Council from 1998 to 2005, when he was elected to the Legislative Yuan. He ended his reelection campaign in May 2007, after losing a party primary, and returned to work for Frank Hsieh. Shen was elected to the New Taipei City Council in 2010. New Tide Faction
The New Tide faction () was the centrist and largest faction of the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) in Taiwan before the party voted to dissolve all factions in 2006. Though dissolved, it remains as the largest faction in the DPP. The faction initially advocated social democracy, attempting to work with other labor and social movements to influence public policy. The faction also advocated the use of group action to resist the influence of elected officials in the Tangwai and DPP (many early New Tide members entered politics via Tangwai publications and social movements rather than electoral politics, as a result, most were not elected officials). Huang Kuo-chang
Huang Kuo-chang (, born ) is a Taiwanese politician, activist, legal scholar, researcher and writer. He is one of the lead figures of the Sunflower Student Movement and joined the New Power Party shortly afterwards. He served as leader of the party from 2015 to 2019, and represented Taipei in the Legislative Yuan on behalf of the NPP between 2016 and 2020. Early life Huang Kuo-chang was born into a traditional farming family in Xizhi Township, Taipei County. He graduated from National Taiwan University in 1995, and he continued his education at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York for a master's degree and a doctorate. Sunflower Student Movement
The Sunflower Student Movement is associated with a protest movement driven by a coalition of students and civic groups that came to a head between March 18 and April 10, 2014, in the Legislative Yuan and, later, also the Executive Yuan of Taiwan. The activists protested the passing of the Cross-Strait Service Trade Agreement (CSSTA) by the then ruling party Kuomintang (KMT) at the legislature without clause-by-clause review.
