Shell River (Assiniboine River)
The Shell River is a river in western Manitoba. It flows south from its source in Duck Mountain Provincial Park (Manitoba), Duck Mountain Provincial Park at the confluence of the East Shell River and West Shell River, to its mouth in Asessippi Provincial Park at the Shellmouth Reservoir, Lake of the Prairies where it joins the Assiniboine River. The river was originally a meltwater channel resulting from the melting of the Keewatin Ice Flow, part of Laurentide Ice Sheet more than ten thousand years ago. The modern day Shell River is much smaller and meanders within the large valley created by its glacier fed predecessor. It is an example of a misfit stream, where a river occupies a river channel that does not match its size. Provincial Road 367 (PR 367) is in the Canadian province of Manitoba. Route description Provincial Road 367 is an east-west route that runs from PTH 10 near Garland to PTH 83 near San Clara. It is the main east-west route through Duck Mountain Provincial Park. It is mainly a gravel road as it passes through the park, and is paved on either side of the park gates, with paved sections from PTH 83 to PR 594 south on the west side, and from the park's east gate to PTH 10 on the east side. Provincial Trunk Highway 83 (PTH 83) is a major north-south highway that runs in the far western region of the Canadian province of Manitoba. It travels from the North Dakota border south of Melita, north through Virden, Birtle, Russell, and Roblin to its northern terminus with PTH 10 in the town of Swan River. Manitoba Highway 5
Provincial Trunk Highway 5 (PTH 5) is a provincial primary highway located in the Canadian province of Manitoba. The highway starts at the Hansboro–Cartwright Border Crossing on the Canada–United States border and ends at the Saskatchewan boundary west of Roblin. Besides Roblin, it passes through the communities of Cartwright, Glenboro, Carberry, Neepawa, McCreary, Ste. Rose Du Lac, Grandview, and Gilbert Plains along its route. The highway, in a section concurrent with PTH 10, bypasses the City of Dauphin. (PTH 5A / 10A does run through Dauphin.) The segment of PTH 5 between PTH 10 and Ste. Rose Du Lac is part of the Northern Woods and Water Route. Further south, PTH 5 is also the main route through Spruce Woods Provincial Park between Glenboro and Carberry. Misfit Stream
A misfit stream is a river that is either too large or too small to have eroded the valley or cave passage in which it flows.
