Sheldon Levy
Sheldon Levy (born 1949) is a veteran Canadian business leader in higher education who is currently President and Vice-Chancellor of University Canada West (UCW) in Vancouver and a special advisor on the development of the forthcoming University of Niagara Falls. He previously served as President and Vice-Chancellor of Ryerson University (now Toronto Metropolitan University) (2005-15), as Deputy Minister in the Government of Ontario (2015-17), and in many other leadership roles. He has been honoured many times for his lifelong contributions to student entrepreneurship and digital innovation in higher education. In Canada, a deputy minister (DM; french: sous-ministre) is the senior civil servant in a government organization, who acts as deputy head. Deputy ministers take political direction from a minister of the Crown, who is typically an elected member of Parliament and responsible for the department. The Canadian position is equivalent to the position of permanent secretary in the United Kingdom and the Australian position of departmental secretary. This position should not be confused with the deputy prime minister of Canada, who is not a civil servant at all, but a politician and senior member of the Cabinet. Baycrest Health Sciences is a research and teaching hospital for the elderly in the North York district of Toronto, Ontario, Canada. It is fully affiliated with the University of Toronto. Baycrest was originally founded in 1918 as the Toronto Jewish Old Folks Home in a semi-detached Victorian house at 29 Cecil Street in Downtown Toronto. Freedom of speech is a principle that supports the freedom of an individual or a community to articulate their opinions and ideas without fear of retaliation, censorship, or legal sanction. Margaret Anne Ganley Somerville (born 13 April 1942) is Professor of Bioethics at University of Notre Dame Australia. She was previously Samuel Gale Professor of Law at McGill University. Somerville was born in Adelaide, South Australia, and educated at Mercedes College ( Springfield, South Australia). She received a A.u.A. (pharm.) from the University of Adelaide in 1963, a Bachelor of Law degree (Hons. I) and the University Medal from the University of Sydney in 1973, and a D.C.L. from McGill University in 1978.
