Shek Chung Au
Shek Chung Au () is a village in the Sha Tau Kok area of North District of Hong Kong. Administration Shek Chung Au is a recognized village under the New Territories Small House Policy. It is one of the villages represented within the Sha Tau Kok District Rural Committee. For electoral purposes, Shek Chung Au is part of the Sha Ta constituency, which is currently represented by Ko Wai-kei. Location Nearby villages include Wu Shek Kok, located southeast of Shek Chung Au, directly across Sha Tau Kok Road; Shek Kiu Tau in the southwest and Tong To in the northeast. History Shek Chung Au was historically an important traffic node, and a military post was located there during several hundred years, until the mid-19th century. In 1911, the Sha Tau Kok Railway was opened as far as Shek Chung Au. The light railway was then extended to Sha Tau Kok in 1912. Sha Tau Kok Railway
The Sha Tau Kok Railway ( Chinese: 沙頭角鐵路) was a narrow-gauge light rail operated by the Kowloon–Canton Railway Corporation, running from Fanling to Sha Tau Kok in the northern New Territories of Hong Kong. It was long and had eight services a day. The time it took to travel from Fanling to Sha Tau Kok was 55 minutes. Background Following the opening of British Section of the Kowloon–Canton Railway (mainline, now East Rail line) in 1911, local authorities in Tai Po District Office proposed the construction of railway branch to boundary town Sha Tau Kok, which was likely to increase the revenue of mainline considering the stable movement of villagers between Sha Tau Kok Market and Sham Chun Market (now Shenzhen). The proposal was accepted by the Hong Kong Government on 28 April 1911. Tong To
Tong To () is a village in the Sha Tau Kok area of North District of Hong Kong. Administration Tong To is a recognized village under the New Territories Small House Policy. It is one of the villages represented within the Sha Tau Kok District Rural Committee. For electoral purposes, Tong To is part of the Sha Ta constituency, which is currently represented by Ko Wai-kei. History At the time of the 1911 census, the population of Tong To was 104. The number of males was 47. The three Hakka villages of Tam Shui Hang, Tong To and Shan Tsui had a total population of around 1,000 persons in 1961. During the Cultural Revolution, the villagers of these three places removed a Tin Hau image from a Man Mo temple located across the border in Mainland China and built a temple at the western end of Kong Ha Village to house the image. Antiquities Advisory Board
The Antiquities Advisory Board (AAB) is a statutory body of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region with the responsibility of advising the Antiquities Authority on any matters relating to antiquities and monuments. The AAB was established in 1976 along with the Antiquities and Monuments Office (AMO) when the Antiquities and Monuments Ordinance (Cap. 53) was enacted, and comprises members appointed by the Chief Executive. The corresponding governmental ministry is the Development Bureau, and executive support for the AAB is provided by the AMO which is under the Development Bureau. Starling Inlet
Starling Inlet or Sha Tau Kok Hoi () is a harbour in northeast New Territories, Hong Kong. The whole body of water falls within the Closed Area and generally restricted to local residents. Features Settlements around the harbour include: Sha Tau Kok, Wu Shek Kok, Yim Tso Ha, Nam Chung, Luk Keng, Kai Kuk Shue Ha, Fung Hang, Kuk Po, Yung Shue Au. Islets within Starling Inlet include A Chau, near the southwestern end of the Inlet, and Shui Cham Tsui Pai. A section of Starling Inlet located offshore of Sha Tau Kok is one of the 26 designated marine fish culture zones in Hong Kong. The Frontier Closed Area (), established by the Frontier Closed Area Order, 1951, and 1984 is a regulated border zone in Hong Kong that extended inwards from the border with Mainland China. Established to prevent illegal migrants and other illegal activities from Mainland China and elsewhere by land and sea, the closed area is fenced along its perimeter to serve as a buffer between the closed border and the rest of the territory patrolled and controlled by Hong Kong Police Force and its Marine Region and the Immigration Department at land and sea.
