Sheila Elias
Sheila Elias (born in Chicago) is an American artist. Her works have been featured in exhibitions across North America and at the Liberty show at the Louvre Museum in Paris. Biography Elias graduated from the Art Institute of Chicago, lives and works in Miami, Florida and in New York City. As an artist and art historian, Elias works with the layers of life and art history, seeking in it a connection between art aesthetics and social consciousness. Elias has been doing installations reflecting her studio's neighborhood since the 1980s and she has received recognition for her blend of social consciousness and aesthetics. Her work spans the disciplines of painting, digital mixed media, sculpture, installation and performance. The Artforum Culture Foundation (ACF) is a private and independent nonprofit organization with headquarters in Thessaloniki, Greece, which promotes contemporary art and cultural exchange. The organisation also has offices in Athens, Cologne, Paris, New York City. It main focus is on art in Greece and the regions of the Greek diaspora. Lowe Art Museum is the art museum of the University of Miami in Coral Gables, Florida. The museum is located on the campus of the University of Miami and is accessible by Miami Metrorail at University Station. The Bass Museum of Art is a contemporary art museum located in Miami Beach, Florida. The Bass Museum of Art was founded in 1963 and opened in 1964. History Early years John Bass (1891-1978) and Johanna Redlich (m. Feb. 21, 1921) were Jewish-immigrants from Vienna, Austria who resided in Miami Beach. As President of the Fajardo Sugar Company of Puerto Rico, John Bass was also an amateur journalist, artist (namely painting and etching) and composer of published music. Mr. Bass collected both fine art and cultural artifacts, including a sizeable manuscript collection that now lives in the Carnegie Hall Archives.
