Sheikh Karamat Ali
Shaikh Karamat Ali (died 8 September 1951) was a Pakistani Muslim League politician from Punjab, Pakistan. Ali was a lawyer, by training. In the 1946 Punjab Provincial Assembly election, he stood as a Muslim League candidate from the North-Eastern Towns constituency, reserved for Muslims. Ali defeated the incumbent legislator — Maulvi Mazhar Ali Azhar, General Secretary of the Majlis-e-Ahrar-ul-Islam— comfortably, by a margin of about six thousand votes. In the Assembly, Ali opposed the Congress-Unionist coalition government, and was particularly noted for his animosity towards Hindus. Subsequently, he was elected by the Assembly to the Constituent Assembly of India but abdicated attendance until the Mountbatten Plan sanctioned the creation of Pakistan and its own constituent assembly. 1946 Punjab Provincial Assembly Election
Elections to the Punjab Provincial Assembly were held in January 1946 as part of the 1946 Indian provincial elections. Campaign The Unionist Party contested the election under the leadership of Malik Khizar Hayat Tiwana but the party stood at fourth place. To stop the Muslim League to form the government in Punjab Indian National Congress and Shiromani Akali Dal extended their support to Unionist Party. Mazhar Ali Azhar (13 March 1895 – 4 November 1974) was a politician in British Raj, British India and later Pakistan, and one of the founders of Majlis-e-Ahrar-ul-Islam. Majlis-e Ahrar-e Islam ( ur, مجلس احرارلأسلام), also known in short as Ahrar, is a religious Muslim political party in the Indian subcontinent that was formed during the British Raj (prior to the Partition of India) on 29 December 1929 at Lahore. The group became composed of Indian Muslims inspired by and supporting the Khilafat Movement, which cleaved closer to the Congress Party.
