Sheikh Jawad Al-Sadiq Mosque
The Sheikh Jawad Al-Sadiq Mosque or Husseiniyah Mullah Mahmoud was a husseininya-mosque complex located in Tal Afar, Iraq. It is adjacent to the Saad Ibn Aqeel Shrine. The mosque of is named for the ninth Twelver Shi'a Imam, Muhammad al-Jawad and a Sheikh named Mahmoud al-Barzanji. There is also a small cemetery behind the mosque. The mosque is not to be confused with the Mosque of Sayyid Ar-Mahmoud. Incidents On 15 February 2008, two suicide bombers attacked the mosque after the Friday prayers. 17 people were wounded from the attack. In 2014, the mosque was demolished with explosives by ISIL as part of a plan to destroy Shi'a and Sufi sites in Nineveh governorate. Explosive devices were rigged to the minaret, destroying the mosque. Hussainiya
A ḥosayniya or hussainiya (Arabic: حسينية ''husayniyya''), also known as an ashurkhana, imambargah, or imambara, is a congregation hall for Twelver Shia Muslim commemoration ceremonies, especially those associated with the Mourning of Muharram. Hussainiya is a multitude hall for the mourning of Muharram and other commemoration rituals of Shia that its name gets from Husayn ibn Ali, the grandson of Muhammad. Terminology A hussainiya is different from a mosque. The name comes from Husayn ibn Ali, the third of the Twelve Imams and the grandson of the Islamic prophet Muhammad. Husayn was martyred at the Battle of Karbala on 10 October 680 CE during the reign of Ubayd Allah ibn Ziyad. The Shia commemorate his martyrdom every year on Ashura, the 10th day of Muharram. Saad Ibn Aqeel Shrine
Imam Saad bin Aqil' Shrine was a mosque, hussainiyah and mausoleum located at Tal Afar, Iraq. The complex contained the tomb of Imam Saad Bin Aqil, a descendant of Aqeel ibn Abi Talib. A smaller mausoleum with a white dome was located next to the mausoleum. Sheikh Jawad Al-Sadiq Mosque was next to the mosque and shrine. A few years later, a reconstruction started of the mausoleum. Muhammad Al-Jawad
Muhammad ibn Ali al-Jawad ( ar, محمد بن علي الجواد, Muḥammad ibn ʿAlī al-Jawād, – 29 November 835) was a descendant of the Islamic prophet Muhammad and the ninth of the Twelve Imams, succeeding his father, Ali al-Rida. He was known as al-Jawād () and al-Taqī (). Similar to many of his predecessors, al-Jawad kept aloof from politics and engaged in teaching. Mosque Of Sayyid Ar-Mahmoud
The Mosque of Sayyid Ar-Mahmoud is a former Shia Islam, Shia Islamic mosque and shrine complex that was located in Tal Afar, Iraq. The complex was founded in 1998 and destroyed in 2014. The mausoleum The mausoleum of Sayyid Ar-Mahmoud is located under the green dome of the mosque. Destruction The mausoleum was destroyed by Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant, ISIL in 2014 as part of a plan to destroy historic shrines in Tal Afar, Mosul and Nineveh. Explosives were planted at the tomb, completely destroying the green dome as well as the shrine under it and damaged several graves in the cemetery next to the shrine. Husayn Ibn Ali
