Sheik Yerbouti
''Sheik Yerbouti'' is a double album by Frank Zappa, released in March 1979 as the first release on Zappa Records (distributed by Phonogram Inc.) It is mostly made up of live material recorded in 1977 and 1978, with extensive overdubs added in the studio. In an October 1978 interview, Zappa gave the working album title as ''Martian Love Secrets.'' It was later released on a single CD. ''Sheik Yerbouti'' is Zappa's biggest selling album with over 2 million units sold worldwide. Inspiration Zappa appears on the cover in character in Arab headdress. The title is a play on words and is pronounced like the 1976 disco hit " Shake Your Booty" by KC and the Sunshine Band. The album has some of Zappa's most satirical and controversial lyrics. "Bobby Brown" was banned from US airplay due to its sexually explicit lyrics. " I Have Been in You" pokes fun at Peter Frampton's 1977 hit "I'm in You" while emphasizing an explicit meaning. " Dancin' Fool", a Grammy nominee, became a ...

Bobby Brown (song)
"Bobby Brown (Goes Down)" is a song by Frank Zappa released on his album ''Sheik Yerbouti'' in 1979. One of his best known songs, it was hugely successful in Europe. It was a number-one-hit in Norway and Sweden and placed at number 4 in the German charts, where it sold more than 250,000 units. This song was more successful in Europe than America (the song's pervasive sexual content made it unfit for broadcast on U.S. radio) and this is why it is only featured on the vinyl and European CD version of Zappa's best of compilation, ''Strictly Commercial''. Synopsis The song describes a wealthy, misogynistic student named Bobby Brown, "the cutest boy in town", whose life is the archetypal American Dream until a traumatic sexual encounter with "Freddie", a dyke involved in the women's liberation movement, leaves him questioning his sexuality. Bobby transforms into a leisure suit-wearing closeted homosexual working in radio promotions; by the end of the song, he and "a friend" (later impl ...

Keffiyeh
The keffiyeh or kufiya ( ar, كُوفِيَّة, kūfīyah, relating to Kufa, link=no), also known in Arabic as a ghutrah (), shemagh ( '), (), in Kurdish as a Shemagh ''(''شه‌ماغ'')'' or Serwîn (سه‌روین) and in Persian, as a čafiya () or čapiya (چپیه), is a traditional headdress worn by men. It is fashioned from a square scarf, and is usually made of cotton. The keffiyeh is commonly found in arid regions, as it provides protection from sunburn, dust and sand. An agal is often used to keep it in place. Varieties and variations Other than Arabs, Kurds are another ethnic group famous for wearing this headpiece, Kurds often call it a ''Shemagh'' ( ku, شه‌ماغ) or ''Serwîn'' ( ku, سه‌روین, links=no). During his sojourn with the Marsh Arabs of Iraq, Gavin Young noted that the local ''sayyids''—"venerated men accepted ..as descendants of the Prophet Muhammad and Ali ibn Abi Talib"—wore dark green keffiyeh (''cheffiyeh'') in contrast ...

Zoot Allures
''Zoot Allures'' is the 22nd album by the American rock musician Frank Zappa, released in October 1976 and his only release on the Warner Bros. Records label. Due to a lawsuit with his former manager, Herb Cohen, Zappa's recording contract was temporarily reassigned from DiscReet Records to Warner Bros. Title The title is a pun on the French expression " Zut alors!", which conveys mild surprise. Album information The album was originally conceptualized as a double LP, but Zappa rearranged, edited, and shortened the track listing to what was eventually released as a single album. Zappa played a test pressing of the original album for ''Circus'' magazine in 1976, which reported a radically different, though slightly erroneous track listing that included "Sleep Dirt", "The Ocean Is the Ultimate Solution", "Filthy Habits", and "Night of the Iron Sausage". The former three tracks eventually surfaced on the 1979 ''Sleep Dirt'' and the posthumous ''Läther''; "Night of the Iron Sausage" ...

The Torture Never Stops (song)
"The Torture Never Stops" is a song by Frank Zappa from the 1976 album ''Zoot Allures''. Other versions appear on ''Zappa in New York'', ''Thing-Fish'', ''You Can't Do That on Stage Anymore, Vol. 1'', ''You Can't Do That on Stage Anymore, Vol. 4'', ''The Best Band You Never Heard in Your Life'', '' FZ:OZ'', '' Cheap Thrills'', '' Buffalo'', ''Philly '76'', and ''Hammersmith Odeon''. Zappa played "The Torture Never Stops" in concert from 1975 to 1978, in 1981 and again in 1988. The song debuted in 1975 as "Why Doesn't Somebody Get Him a Pepsi?" though few of the instrument parts were similar to the album version. Critics have written that while performing the song, Zappa comes off as calm yet passive-aggressive. Michel Delville, in his essay ''Frank Zappa, Captain Beefheart and the Secret History of Maximalism'' contrasted the tone of "The Torture Never Stops" with Brian Eno's album '' Ambient 1: Music for Airports''. Rat Tomago A live solo from the song, called "Rat Tomago", w ...

Jewish Princess (song)
"Jewish Princess" is a song by Frank Zappa, released on his 1979 album ''Sheik Yerbouti''. The song is about a man looking for a "nasty little Jewish Princess" with "long phony nails", "a garlic aroma that could level Tacoma", "a Yemenite hole", " a hair-do that rinses", "a couple of sisters that can raise a few blisters A blister is a small pocket of body fluid (lymph, serum, plasma, blood, or pus) within the upper layers of the skin, usually caused by forceful rubbing (friction), burning, freezing, chemical exposure or infection. It attracted attention from the Anti-Defamation League, to which Zappa denied an apology, arguing: "Unlike the unicorn, such creatures do exist—and deserve to be 'commemorated' with their own special opus". He said that the ADL's concerns were "as if to say there is no such thing as a Jewish Princess. Like I invented this?" Biographer Barry Miles wrote that the ADL ...

Bob Dylan
Bob Dylan (legally Robert Dylan, born Robert Allen Zimmerman, May 24, 1941) is an American singer-songwriter. Often regarded as one of the greatest songwriters of all time, Dylan has been a major figure in popular culture during a career spanning more than 60 years. Much of his most celebrated work dates from the 1960s, when songs such as "Blowin' in the Wind" (1963) and " The Times They Are a-Changin' (1964) became anthems for the civil rights and antiwar movements. His lyrics during this period incorporated a range of political, social, philosophical, and literary influences, defying pop music conventions and appealing to the burgeoning counterculture. Following his self-titled debut album in 1962, which comprised mainly traditional folk songs, Dylan made his breakthrough as a songwriter with the release of ''The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan'' the following year. The album features "Blowin' in the Wind" and the thematically complex " A Hard Rain's a-Gonna Fall". Many of his s ...
