Sheffield University Bankers Hockey Club
Sheffield University Bankers Hockey Club is a hockey club based in Sheffield, South Yorkshire, England. It is associated with the University of Sheffield men's and women's hockey clubs, and many of its players are current students or alumni of the University of Sheffield. It is often abbreviated as SUBHC. History Sheffield University Bankers Hockey Club came from a merger of the University of Sheffield Men/Women's hockey clubs' Saturday teams and the well-established Sheffield Bankers Hockey Club in the year 2000, for reasons of mutual benefit. The Sheffield Bankers club was formed in the 1920s and originally played at Abbeydale Park. Up until just after World War II only bank employees were allowed to play. When hockey moved to astroturf in the 1980s, the club moved out to the Concord Sports Centre, before moving to the University of Sheffield facilities at Goodwin Sports Centre. North Hockey Association
The North Hockey Association runs hockey leagues based in the North of England. It feeds teams into the Men's and Women's England Hockey Leagues and takes teams from sub-regional (county) leagues, such as the Yorkshire Hockey Association. League Structure As with most field hockey leagues, it has separate male and female competitions. Both male and female systems consist of a Premier Division, Division 1 and Division 2. In the male competition, there are two separate Division 2s, split geographically into East and West. For the female competition, there are four separate Division 2s, split geographically into North East, South East, South West and North West. Tapton School
Tapton School is a secondary school with academy status located in Crosspool, in Sheffield, South Yorkshire, England. It is sited next to another secondary, King Edward VII School in Sheffield, and near to Lydgate Junior School in Crosspool, Lydgate Infant School in Sheffield and Notre Dame Catholic High School in Sheffield. Tapton School has approximately 1,650 pupils, aged between 11 and 18 years old. Tapton officially opened in 1960, but in 2000 the school was rebuilt under the Private Finance Initiative. Students and faculties officially moved to the new building in September 2001. History Tapton Secondary School opened in 1960 with 660 pupils. Sheffield has a long history of involvement in sport. Although cricket was the first organised sport, it has gradually been supplanted by football. Both the main two local football teams grew out of cricket teams. Crookes is a suburb of the City of Sheffield, England, about west of the city centre. It borders Broomhill to the south, Walkley and Crookesmoor to the east and open countryside around the River Rivelin to the north. King Edward VII School (Sheffield)
King Edward VII School is a coeducational secondary school and sixth form located in Sheffield, South Yorkshire, England. History King Edward VII School, named after the reigning monarch, was formed in 1905 when Wesley College was merged with Sheffield Royal Grammar School on the site of the former on Glossop Road. The former buildings of Wesley College, now King Edward VII Upper School, designed and built by the Sheffield architect, William Flockton in 1838, were Grade II* listed in 1973. The school's history is far older than its regal name suggests. It can be traced directly to a Royal Charter granted in 1604 for the "Free School of King James", the result of a legacy of Thomas Smith who had died the previous year.
