Sheffield Sword Club
{{Use dmy dates, date=December 2021 Sheffield Sword Club is a fencing club that meets at the English Institute of Sport, Sheffield. The club encourages all ages and abilities, and runs regular beginner sessions throughout the year. The club meets on a Thursday between Juniors 6–7.30pm & Seniors 7.30-10pm at the English Institute of Sport, Sheffield where sabre and épée are fenced. History Sheffield Sword Club was first formed in 1910 and continued until 1984 when it separated and formed a couple of additional separate clubs, the main club fizzled out, the name remained unused until 2003 when it was reformed at the English Institute of Sport, Sheffield and since then has grown to be the largest club in the area. This was due in the main part to its principal coach, James Williams, whose reputation in the fencing world is second to none, and the work that he has done with the club, and the community. Fencing is a group of three related combat sports. The three disciplines in modern fencing are the foil, the épée, and the sabre (also ''saber''); winning points are made through the weapon's contact with an opponent. English Institute Of Sport, Sheffield
The English Institute of Sport is a multi-sport facility in Sheffield, South Yorkshire, England. The facility designed by FaulknerBrowns Architects was opened in December 2003 at a cost of £24 million. Its main feature is a 200m indoor track, but it also hosts several other sporting arenas as well as a large gym and extensive sports medicine facilities. It is in the Lower Don Valley between the Sheffield Arena and Don Valley Bowl. It is managed by SIV (Sheffield International Venues). Sabre (fencing)
The sabre (US English: ''saber'', both pronounced ) is one of the three disciplines of modern fencing. The sabre weapon is for thrusting and cutting with both the cutting edge and the back of the blade (unlike other modern fencing weapons, the épée and foil, where the methods of making a hit are scored using only the point of the blade). Husayn Rosowsky
Husayn Rosowsky (born Sheffield, 1991) is a British foil fencer. Biography At the 2012 Summer Olympics he competed in the Men's foil, but was defeated in the first round. Husayn also competed in the Men's foil team event, where in the first round Great Britain beat the Egyptian Team, but in the quarter final Team GB lost to Italy. In 2008, he won an individual bronze medal at the U17 World Championships in Acireale in Sicily. In 2010, he won an individual bronze medal and a team bronze medal in the U20 European Championships in Moscow. In 2010, he was U20 UK National Foil Champion and reached the quarter finals of the World University Games in 2011.
