Thomas Bentley
Thomas Bentley (23 February 1884 – 23 December 1966) was a British film director. He directed 68 films between 1912 and 1941. He directed three films in the early DeForest Phonofilm sound-on-film process, ''The Man in the Street'' (1926), ''The Antidote'' (1927), and ''Acci-Dental Treatment'' (1928). Bentley was born in St George Hanover Square, London and originally trained as an engineer but went on to become a vaudeville performer well known for impersonating the characters from the novels of Charles Dickens on stage, touring Britain and Australia.McFarlane, Brian (28 February 2014). Sybil Grove was an English actress. She was born Sybil Marian Westmacott on 4 October 1891 in Teddington, Middlesex, and was also known as Sybil Wingrove. With reddish brown hair and standing 5'8", she trained at RADA and her stage debut was in 1927. She had seven years in the UK in straight plays, revues and musical comedies then seven years directing and playing in her own stock company in the Orient. She also worked in the United States. She died in 1957, aged 65, and was interred in Weston Super Mare Crematorium & Cemetery. Ben Welden (born Benjamin Weinblatt; June 12, 1901 – October 17, 1997) was an American character actor who played a wide variety of Damon Runyon-type gangsters in various movies and television shows. Early years Welden was born in Toledo, Ohio. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. Career Welden's film debut occurred in the British production ''The Man from Chicago'' (1930). After freelancing for several years, he signed with Warner Bros. in 1937. Short, balding and somewhat rotund, Welden often literally played a "heavy", frequently in a somewhat comical or slightly dim-witted way, offsetting the sinister nature of his character's actions. Among his roles in this vein was ''The Big Sleep'' (1946). Fred Conyngham (June 8, 1901 – May 8, 1974) was an Australian actor from Sydney. He was the son of George Conyngham, an actor and stage manager. The younger Conyngham began his career as a specialty dancer. He left musical comedy for drama; then, after discovering he possessed a good tenor voice, he had it trained and returned to musical comedy as a leading man. He toured the world and on his return was given a part in the film The Indiscretions of Eve (1932), which began his film career.
