Shayne Philpott
Shayne Philpott (21 September 1965 – 25 June 2024) was a New Zealand rugby union player. A utility back, Philpott represented Canterbury at a provincial level, and was a member of the New Zealand national side, the All Blacks, between 1988 and 1991. He played 14 matches for the All Blacks including two internationals. Philpott attended Burnside High School in Christchurch Christchurch ( ; mi, Ōtautahi) is the largest city in the South Island of New Zealand and the seat of the Canterbury Region. Christchurch ( ; mi, Ōtautahi) is the largest city in the South Island of New Zealand and the seat of the Canterbury Region. Rugby Union Positions
In the game of rugby union, there are 15 players on each team, comprising eight forwards (wearing jerseys numbered 1–8) and seven backs (numbered 9–15). In addition, there may be up to eight replacement players "on the bench", numbered 16–23. Players are not restricted to a single position, although they generally specialise in just one or two that suit their skills and body types. Players that play multiple positions are called "utility players". Forwards compete for the ball in scrums and line-outs and are generally bigger and stronger than the backs.
