Shaylee Gonzales
Shaylee Gonzales (born May 2, 2000) is an American college basketball player for the Texas Longhorns of the Big 12 Conference. She previously played for the BYU Cougars. High school career Gonzales played basketball for Mesquite High School in Gilbert, Arizona, where she was coached by her mother, Candice. As a junior, she averaged 19.8 points, 5.7 steals and 6.6 assists per game, leading her team to a 31–1 record and its first Class 5A state championship. She was named Arizona Gatorade Player of the Year. In her senior season, Gonzales averaged 21 points, 7.7 rebounds and five steals per game, helping Mesquite reach the Class 5A state title game. A three-star recruit, she committed to playing college basketball for BYU. Guard (basketball)
In the sport of basketball, there are five players play per team, each assigned to positions. Historically, these players have been assigned, to positions defined by the role they play on the court, from a strategic point of view. The three main positions are guard, forward, and center, with the standard team featuring two guards, two forwards, and a center. Meniscus Tear
A tear of a meniscus is a rupturing of one or more of the fibrocartilage strips in the knee called menisci. When doctors and patients refer to "torn cartilage" in the knee, they actually may be referring to an injury to a meniscus at the top of one of the tibiae. Menisci can be torn during innocuous activities such as walking or squatting. They can also be torn by traumatic force encountered in sports or other forms of physical exertion. The traumatic action is most often a twisting movement at the knee while the leg is bent. In older adults, the meniscus can be damaged following prolonged 'wear and tear'. Especially acute injuries (typically in younger, more active patients) can lead to displaced tears which can cause mechanical symptoms such as clicking, catching, or locking during motion of the joint. 2018–19 BYU Cougars Women's Basketball Team
The 2018–19 BYU Cougars women's basketball team represented Brigham Young University during the 2018–19 NCAA Division I women's basketball season. It was head coach Jeff Judkins's eighteenth season at BYU. The Cougars, members of the West Coast Conference, play their home games at the Marriott Center. In 2019 the Cougars won the West Coast Conference tournament championship game over Gonzaga. In that tournament, Paisley Johnson was named the tournament's Most Outstanding Player. They finished the season 26–7, 15–3 in WCC play to finish in second round. In the NCAA women's tournament as a 7th seed in the Chicago regional they defeated Auburn in the first round before losing to Stanford in the second round. NCAA Transfer Portal
The NCAA transfer portal is a National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) application, database, and compliance tool launched on October 15, 2018, to manage and facilitate the process for student athletes seeking to transfer between member institutions. The transfer portal permits student athletes to place their name in an online database declaring their desire to transfer. Athletes enter the portal by informing their current school of their desire to transfer; the school then has two business days to enter the athlete's name in the database. Once an athlete's name is entered in the database, coaches and staff from other schools are permitted to make contact with the athlete to inquire about their interest in visiting the campus and accepting a scholarship. Jeff Reed Judkins (born March 23, 1956) is a retired American professional basketball player and coach. He coached the Brigham Young University (BYU) Cougars women's basketball team from 2001 to 2022, after serving as their assistant coach in 2000–01. The Saint Mary's Gaels women's basketball team represents Saint Mary's College in Moraga, California, competing in the West Coast Conference of the NCAA. History BYU's student-published newspaper was first titled ''White and Blue'' (1898–1921), later becoming the ''Y News'' (1921–1948).
