Shay Whitcomb
Shay Lane Whitcomb (born September 28, 1998) is an American professional baseball infielder for the Houston Astros of Major League Baseball (MLB). Career Whitcomb attended Newbury Park High School in Newbury Park, California, and played college baseball at the University of California, San Diego. In 2019, he played collegiate summer baseball with the Orleans Firebirds of the Cape Cod Baseball League. Whitcomb was drafted by the Houston Astros in the fifth round of the 2020 Major League Baseball draft. He was the final player selected in the draft which was shortened due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Whitcomb did not play in a game in 2020 due to the cancellation of the minor league season as a result of the pandemic. Whitcomb spent his first professional season in 2021 with the Single–A Fayetteville Woodpeckers and High–A Asheville Tourists. Sugar Land Space Cowboys
The Sugar Land Space Cowboys are a Minor League Baseball team of the Pacific Coast League (PCL) and the Triple-A affiliate of the Houston Astros Major League Baseball club. They are located in Sugar Land, Texas, part of the Greater Houston metropolitan area, and play their home games at Constellation Field. The team began play as the Sugar Land Skeeters in 2012 as an expansion team of the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball (ALPB), an independent baseball league. Their name was a Southern slang word for mosquitos, which are common on summer nights in Southeast Texas. Over eight seasons, they won two league championships (2016 and 2018). In 2020, the Skeeters competed in the Constellation Energy League, a makeshift league they hosted in light of the Atlantic League's cancelled season due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
