Shawne Jackson is a singer, songwriter from Toronto, Ontario, Canada. She had a Canadian Top 10 hit in 1974 with "Just As Bad As You". During her career she has provided the voice for Teacher Harriet in ''Daniel Tiger's Neighborhood'', contributed backing vocals on "I'm A W.O.M.A.N." for Lydia Taylor, backing vocals on '' For Those Who Think Young'' by Rough Trade, backing vocals on the ''Alice Cooper Goes to Hell'' album by Alice Cooper, backing vocals on ''Fret Fever'' by Domenic Troiano. She was also nominee for the 1976 Juno Award for Breakthrough Artist of the Year. Background She is the great granddaughter of Albert Jackson, Canada's first Black letter carrier. During the late 1960s, Shawne and her brother Jay Jackson were the lead singers in a popular Canadian r&b group The Majestics. Domenic Troiano
Domenic Michele Antonio Troiano (January 17, 1946 – May 25, 2005) was a Canadian guitarist and songwriter, best known as a member of Mandala, Bush, James Gang, and The Guess Who. He also recorded music for film and television, often made guest appearances on other musicians' albums, and worked as a producer. Biography Troiano was born in Modugno, Italy, and his family emigrated to Toronto, Ontario during his childhood. He became a Canadian citizen in 1955. His first professional music work was in the early 1960s with a band fronted by Ronnie Hawkins. In 1965 Troiano joined a local Toronto band called the Five Rogues, which later found success as Mandala. The band achieved several hit singles in Canada, and played several times in the United States. Mandala disbanded in 1969, after which Troiano and some of the other members formed the new band Bush. The Guess Who
The Guess Who are a Canadian rock band formed in Winnipeg, Manitoba, in 1965. The band originated in 1962 and achieved an international hit single with a cover of "Shakin' All Over" in 1965 under the name Chad Allan and the Expressions. Don Goodwin
"This Is Your Song" is a song written by Paul Anka, originally recorded as the B-side of his non-album single, "While We're Still Young", and produced by Arif Mardin in 1972, during Anka's short period on Buddah Records. That single fell just short of the top ten on the Canadian pop chart. But Anka offered the song to his protege, pop singer/songwriter Don Goodwin in 1973. Goodwin grew up in Aspen, Colorado, and was discovered by Paul Anka in Las Vegas. The Goodwin cover version charted at No. 86 on the U.S. ''Billboard'' Hot 100. It also reached No. 44 on the Easy Listening chart. In Canada, it peaked at No. 34 pop and hit the top ten on the Adult Contemporary chart. Truck (Canadian Band)
Truck was a 1970s Canadian rock group with a musical style similar to Natural Gas and Lighthouse. Signed to the Capitol label, they released two singles and an album. The outfit started out as Sound Spectrum in 1966 and by the early 1970s they had absorbed experienced musicians from groups Natural Gas and Motherlode. Their name had also been changed to Truck! The 1970s lineup was completely different to what it was when the group began. Magic Management was a music management company that managed Canadian acts such as Jay Telfer, Truck, Christopher Kearney, Terry Dee and The Good Bros. during the 1970s. They also managed English group Hit & Run which was based in Toronto. They became involved with an exercise involving Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau to encourage young people to vote. They became one of the few music-related companies at the time who were able to incorporate management and creative requirements for their acts. The Juno Award for Breakthrough Artist of the Year is an annual award given by the Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences to the best new musician in Canada. The award has been given since 1974, when it was originally divided into separate awards for men and women under the names Most Promising Female Vocalist of the Year and Most Promising Male Vocalist of the Year. These two awards were merged in 1994 into Best New Solo Artist, which was then changed to New Artist of the Year in 2003, and finally changed to its current title beginning in 2013.
