Shawn Wooden (American Football)
Shawn Wooden (born October 23, 1973) is a former American football safety who played in the National Football League (NFL) for nine seasons for the Miami Dolphins and the Chicago Bears. Wooden was drafted in the 6th round by Jimmy Johnson, the then coach of the Miami Dolphins. He played for the Dolphins for four seasons and then signed a free agent contract with the Chicago Bears in the 2000 football season. After one year with the Chicago Bears, he returned to the Miami Dolphins for the remainder of his career. He is currently a financial advisor with Wooden Wealth Strategies. Football career Wooden attended Abington Senior High School, where he played as running back in his senior season. He then accepted a full scholarship to the University of Notre Dame, where he started as a cornerback. Safety (gridiron Football Position)
Safety is a position in gridiron football on the American football positions#Defense, defense. The safeties are defensive backs who line up ten to fifteen yards from the line of scrimmage. There are two variations of the position: the free safety and the strong safety. Their duties depend on the defensive scheme. The defensive responsibilities of the safety and cornerback usually involve pass coverage towards the middle and sidelines of the field. While American (11-player) formations generally use two safeties, Canadian (12-player) formations generally have one safety and two Halfback (Canadian football), defensive halfbacks, a position not used in the American game. Charlie Ward
Charlie Ward Jr. (born October 12, 1970) is a former American professional basketball player. Ward was an exceptional football player as well, winning the Heisman Trophy, Davey O'Brien Award, and College Football National Championship while quarterbacking the Florida State Seminoles. Despite his college football success, he was not drafted to the NFL, opting instead to play in the National Basketball Association (NBA). Ward played for nine years with the New York Knicks and started in the 1999 NBA Finals. He later had short spells with the San Antonio Spurs and Houston Rockets, before retiring in 2005. He was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 2006. 1996 NFL Draft
The 1996 NFL draft was the procedure by which National Football League teams selected amateur college football players. It is officially known as the NFL Annual Player Selection Meeting. The draft was held April 20–21, 1996, at the Paramount Theatre at Madison Square Garden in New York City, New York. No teams chose to claim any players in the supplemental draft that year. On draft day, the St. Louis Rams traded running back Jerome Bettis and a third-round draft pick to the Pittsburgh Steelers in exchange for a second round pick for that year, as well as a fourth round pick the following year. The trade was made immediately after the Rams drafted Nebraska running back Lawrence Phillips.
